1970s East Germany?

Really?

I'm a student of Twentieth Century history (anyone who isn't these days ain't gonna get what's going on in the world) but we're a quarter of the way through the Twenty First century. Referencing European communism ain't relevant for the Tiktok generation.

Up to 1990. Communism is communism no matter when. They seem to reference things that happened 200 and 300 years ago and think we owe people who weren’t around then because of it. Presumably they don’t reference Thatcher as she came to power in the 1970s.

Well, anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together would surmise as he mentioned the Tik Tok generation it refers to them. As soon as you get the second brain cell you willbe able to work it out as well.

Started watching the first series of Snatch, but I've given up on half way through episode four.

I appreciate it's supposed to be a crime 'comedy' drama, but the fact that everything they do goes wrong just gets increasingly more annoying as it goes on.

That twat from Harry Potter is particularly annoying.

Like you can watch This City Is Ours and Gangs Of London and the gratuitous violence but you need a trigger warning to watch or read Shakespeare.<laugh>

Decent midfielder though, and he didn't turn pro until he was 26. He made ten appearances on loan for us, and I had the pleasure of seeing them all. :emoticon-0138-think

Bill Bryson, the author of the original book, has written some excellent books - he covers many topics, eg. travel, language, history, science and combines both serious and humorous modes in his writings. Would recommend any of his works.

He has more honorary doctorate degrees than Hull City can field players on the pitch at the same time !

I watched Don't Look Up on Netflix yesterday. It's a Black Comedy about two scientists (Leonardo Di Caprio and Jenifer Lawrence), who discover that a comet the size of Mount Everest is about to destroy the earth. They take this information to the US President (Meryl Streep), who is utterly inept and does nothing about it. So they contact the media and try and tell the world what's happened but nobody believes them and even when the comet is visible in the sky, millions of people deny it's existence due to the governments Don't Look Up campaign. Realising it is actually going to happen, the government get Nasa to launch a nuclear warhead to break it up, only they turn it round when a socially awkward tech billionaire who funded the presidents campaign tells her that she needs to use his experimental spacecraft to break it up into manageable pieces so they can mine it for $40tr of precious metals.

If it had just been released, everyone would claim they knew who the characters were based on, but it actually came out four years ago.

Life imitating art.

Please delete. I don't see how anyone can discuss that post without it turning political. Oh, hang on.
