Luton Town give fans right to veto any future club image change
Luton Town have become the first English club to give supporters the legal right to veto any future change to the club's image. The Hatters' supporters' group Trust in Luton will be given the final say over amendments to the club's name, nickname, kit colours, crest or mascot.
Hull City fans are currently fighting a proposed name change by their owner. And Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan changed the Welsh side's kit from blue to red in 2012.
Luton themselves faced being re-named London Luton under former owner John Gurney 11 years ago. The move by Luton 2020, the consortium that owns the Hatters, would prevent such changes occurring at Kenilworth Road without the permission of Trust in Luton, the group who hold shares in the club on behalf of fans.
"There is one caveat. The Trust must get stronger," said Luton managing director Gary Sweet. "Because we can't have so few members voting on these things. "We're also going to establish a share scheme for the club via the Trust. So the Trust can buy more shares in the club at some point in the future."

You'll be a great journalist. Misquoting then missing out context must be a fun lecture.
He said less than 10%, then explained how CTWD membership isn't actually all Hull City fans. He, rightly so, is basing his views on the opposition on CTWD. You know, the campaign against the name, that costs a mere 2 quid, that way less than 10% of our fans have joined.
If he seriously believed that bollocks he came out with, he'd have put this argument to bed with a fans vote, but he's refused and he's done so because he knows full well he'd lose it.
Until he's prepared to ask the fans what they think, he has no credibility.
I'm not sure why you keep mentioning the 'mere' £2 membership, we've sold more £5 scarves than £2 memberships.
If there was a ballot of season pass holders, same question as HCOSC asked, what would you expect the outcome to be?
That is a good (heavily edited) interview for the Allam family (the 'family' angle was emphasised a number of times), the only issue I could take was with their argument over the name-change and I was looking for positives, as I want this unfortunate argument resolved. Their claim over the scope of fan objection and the '1600' is not precise, but it is an arguable point. I think that a response interview with CTWD is justified and they must consider that response very carefully. The Allam family have made their position very clear and, at the same time, left themselves lots of wiggle room and that is very clever and very practical of them. My position on the name-change is unaltered, but my dislike of their earlier manipulation and lies is tinged with a touch of respect for their new approach. It is one thing for CTWD to play the numbers game of membership and/or scarf sales to bolster their argument, but, as Ehab implied, those numbers also demonstrate a big measure of apathy from the fan-base. The FA decision is unlikely to be a trigger for their departure, as the wiggle room they created prevents that. I hope this is them on the road back from perdition; they have thrown out a hand of reconciliation to Nicky Barmby, a good thing and they have poked a stick in the eye of Nigel Pearson and then pushed his head under the water (expect a response!), an amusing thing. Interesting times, back to football.
