Hull City 'Tigers' rebrand: CTWD fans submit 'compelling case' to FA to prevent name change
A GROUP of Hull City fans say they have made an "extremely compelling" case to the FA to block plans to rebrand the club.
Yesterday, the campaign group City Till We Die (CTWD) submitted reasons why they believe the name should not be changed to Hull Tigers.
It follows an application made by Assem Allam to football's governing body last month, which if approved, would see the club rebranded in time for the start of the 2014-15 season.
The FA has asked a variety of supporters' groups for their views on the proposed name change before the FA Council gives its verdict in April.
Andy Dalton, CTWD spokesman, said: "We believe we have made an extremely compelling case for why our club should remain Hull City AFC.
"We have definitely given the FA something to think about.
"The overwhelming majority of fans do not want this name change."
Mr Dalton stressed the campaign is not anti Mr Allam.
"The campaign has always been clear about its aim," he said. "It's a campaign to keep the name. It's not anti Allam."
The FA should be applauded for seeking the views of fans groups, said Mr Dalton.
"The FA deserves a lot of credit for the way it has conducted this consultation," he said.
"You can never second-guess the FA but we are confident they will take the views of fans on board."
The campaign has been boosted by support from other clubs up and down the country, said Mr Dalton.
"This is a concern to all football fans," said Mr Dalton. "The support we have received from other clubs has really been quite overwhelming."
Mr Dalton said campaign members are "disappointed" Mr Allam has chosen to ignore the views of fans.
He said: "It would suggest to us that the history of the club means nothing to the owner."
Bernard Noble, of Hull City Official Supporters' Club, said its members had been balloted for their views.
He said: "Our submission does not have to be with the FA until January 31.
"We will not know until next week how the vote has gone."
FA spokesman Scott Field said: "We have no specific comment to make on this at the moment.
"The consultation remains ongoing and we will update accordingly once we have a timeline for a final decision."
Backing for the CTWD campaign has come from Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore, who voiced his displeasure at the notion of Hull Tigers before Christmas.
Speaking on BBC's Sportsweek, Mr Scudamore said: "I would personally prefer they didn't, but that is a decision for the FA.
"Full respect to Mr Allam, he's put his money in and saved Hull, he's got a lot to be credited for.
"But, personally, I think it's difficult to change names.
"There is an element of being a custodian for the club for a certain amount of time and, therefore, I think it's difficult to do."

Looked impressive,nearly every fan participated...Got lots of positive comments from the commentators on the feed I watched.
Excellent work by CTWD, the statement is concise and the comments by Mr Scudamore are encouraging. It is hoped the FA will take his views into account also.

So to ensure that we are still where we are in the BPL he is trying to market us to India or the Far East.

Because there is no proof of any gain in changing the name to Hull Tigers to market in foreign countries.
The only evident proof is that it will decrease sales in England with actual fans of Hull deciding to boycott games and such.

if allam goes an we will drop , at least 90 % of the so called CTWD will stop going FACT......... leaving us fans rite down the leauges AGAIN ? the majority of you wasnt there then and wont be there again if you get ur way, allams put his money in, took us to certainly the best city side ive ever seen , were strong and getting stronger, i just hope this minority of plastic fans dont get there own way, YOU DONT SPEAK FOR US WE ARE THE MAJORITY WE TRAVEL HOME AND AWAY AND HAVE DONE FOR MANY YEARS, SUPPORT MR ALLAM

that article kinda explains the other side of the argument.
AA can't afford to keep digging into his own pockets to fund the club.
I suggest you read it and learn both sides of the argument before you comment on something you don't appear to know much about.
Or even better **** off back to your own board back down in championship and leave the PL boards for us that are old enough to grow pubes.
If Assem Allam goes he will sell the club. He may even sell it to somebody even richer than him.
The "not anti" camp seem to struggle with what the issue and the implications are. Despite their claims, few are against Mr Allam, most are grateful for what he's helped achieve. They seem to think he'll stop putting money in if the name change fails, despite him saying he'll stop putting money in whichever way it goes.
Walking away's not an option for his business (could be for him) so a sale wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. or a certainty.
It's as you say, changing the name achieves nothing that can't be done with the current name and nick name.

And you don't speak for me. Forty five years, pass holder every year for over 30, seen City play at virtually every league ground in the country. I've seen all the crap that countless owners have thrown at us in nearly half a century but never come across any football club owner willing to discard such loyalty, and masquerade a personal argument as progress. Would you have accepted his lies and deceit in league 2? Fez is right, he has a personal agenda and Hull City is a stepping stone, how can anyone accept his word if he is ready to discard the club if anyone dares to question him. I follow Hull City wherever, if you are scared of the ups and downs of football then you obviously won't.
In that piece I read that the boss of the NBA has expressed an opinion about Hull City and the possible namechange. This has become a talking point in a big way even in the US media! If only the whole thing was just Mr Allam's clever ploy to create some publicity with the daft idea.
Note: The head of the NBA says you need the home based fans' support to do anything like what Mr Allam envisages.
