My thoughts exactly, we're Hull City, we are not in the premier league, we do not have a huge budget and our owners are slightly bonkers.

Steve Bruce would be a huge coup.

In terms of proven at Championship level I'd have Bruce or Billy Davies. No one else mentioned offers any improvement in my opinion over our ex manager Barmby.

i never understood the piss take towards him... i understand he looks funny and I also realise he took turner and campbell "from us" although those players didn't want to stay here it seems. But otherwise what has he done to get so much dislike from some fans? I don't really get it. I don'\t recall him being involved in a big controversial story..

I agree with this. Comes across as ok on the telly, decent fella but looking at the career he had on the pitch reckon he will be a hard bastard off it too.

I'd be delighted to get Bruce, none of the names linked have given me any inspiration. Bruce has been a premiership manager for a long time now, yet has a proven record in the championship. The only thing is that he's very well known to have his head turned, expect no loyalty if someone else comes in offereing bigger wages for him. But if he can get us promoted in that time i'm not fussed!

Uh-oh! And someone said he didn't want to know:

[Edit: Our usual Media Whore.....]

Given the owners feelings about a little outspokenness and passion, I would think Brownie's actually just withdrawn his application. Shame really, because whilst there's some merit in not going backwards, I would rather have Brown than the dinner lady. For all his faults (and I blame Duffen for most of the problems), I would rather have his passion - and I believe - genuine love and care for the club, as opposed to Bruce, who would go as soon as a better offer came along. I wonder what odds would be offered on both Brown and Barmby managing the club once again (and in that order) within the next ten years?

Hope you are right, but why does interest in SB mean we are also in for Mad Mick? Are they connected somehow?

Brother and sister.

'Stevie' being the female version of course. Married, to Lenny (Bruce).

Never got along as kids, created an intense rivalry, one that followed them into football management.

Events like this just widen the gap, and it can be traumatic for other family members.

Sad but true.

Family's eh!! Who'd have em. Though if Mick brings his mrs Jenny Mcarthy along he gets my vote.

If anything, Jenny needs a shoulder to cry on.

Stevie can say some terribly bitchy things at times, and they really cut deep.

I've seen Mick floor three guys one after the other in defence of 'Jen', as he likes to call her.

Not connected but they have a similar reputation/experiece (Mick's is probably better) and cost i would imagine. Although many on here don't want Bruce he does show ambition from the Allams, so surely the other target of a similar ambition would be Mick?

Totally agree. Ive got friends who are Wigan fans and they are stunned Martinez is even being considered. They were practically doomed at Christmas after a very poor start to the season and it's not like he was new in the job or anything, he had a lot of time to get 'his team' together. He has done poorly generally since going there from Swansea, consider record signing Boselli who hardly even played for them despite costing what is a lot for a club that size, and I was categorically told "We're nowhere near as good as we were under Bruce".

As you say, if it wasnt for the last 2 months of the season he could easily have been sacked by Wigan and I think it is only the dignified way he handled himself and staying true to his principles that have endeared him to potential suitors. So back on topic I hope he doesnt go to Liverpool cos I actually fancy Bruce is the best option we could realistically hope for.

That's ridiculous, it's like saying if you don't count the games Man United have won or drawn in the last 25 years, they've been **** and SAF is clearly not up to the task. Obviously with any job you have to look at the whole job not just certain parts you pick and choose, and you have to take into account the circumstances of the job; for example Wigan can't attract proven players and have to go for either lower league players or take a punt on foreignors. They have a ridiculously small fanbase for a PL team so what can they expect? The fact they've stayed up so long is amazing.

An even better comparison is David Moyes at Everton. Every single year they look crap until the second half of the season and then suddenly turn into world beaters, should Moyes not be considered for better jobs because of the poor start they have to every season? Or should we look at the job done on whole?

After all of the abuse poor old Steve (and me) have received from Tigers supporters in the past, the dinner lady jibes, the unflattering mock up photos and the general insults, look what is likely to happen !!!

I hope he gets the job and you might take back all of those insults and apologise to him. <whistle>

Mind you, knowing Tigers supporters he will now become the best thing since sliced bread, your mesiah and savior - you are a fickle lot !!! <doh>

Nah, we all still think he's a bit of a **** and looks like a dinner lady/pantomime tranny, but he seems to be the best man available to us at the moment, which is very unfortunate.

Also I don't think it is likely to happen to be honest. Not based on anything other than him being a big name and we don't do big names or big money.

I think you may be wrong ! The bookies have him as 1-4 favourite ! If Wigan don't want him - what a laugh.

What goes around comes around. Serves you right !!!!

Go put your money on it then.

I'm willing to offer superblackcatforever a £100 bet that Steve Bruce will not be the next manager of Hull City.

We can both deposit £100 in a solicitors holding account, which I'll arrange, winner takes all.

Come of gobshite, put your money where your mouth is(PM me for account details, I'll get my solicitors to guarantee the £200).

He won't, he's a pissy pant little ****er.

I think he's waiting for Fergie to go before he leaves Everton, he really eserves the job on merit & I hope when he does go there they give him a chance.
