That's ridiculous, it's like saying if you don't count the games Man United have won or drawn in the last 25 years, they've been **** and SAF is clearly not up to the task. Obviously with any job you have to look at the whole job not just certain parts you pick and choose, and you have to take into account the circumstances of the job; for example Wigan can't attract proven players and have to go for either lower league players or take a punt on foreignors. They have a ridiculously small fanbase for a PL team so what can they expect? The fact they've stayed up so long is amazing.

An even better comparison is David Moyes at Everton. Every single year they look crap until the second half of the season and then suddenly turn into world beaters, should Moyes not be considered for better jobs because of the poor start they have to every season? Or should we look at the job done on whole?

It wasnt my opinion, I was directly quoting Latics season ticket holders who have seen them play for more often than you or I ever will. They said they were better under Bruce and Martinez signings - such as Boselli - have generally been poor.

FACT.

Another very left-field one that i've heard:

Henning Berg

Take it with a pinch of salt. But 'apparently' he makes up the 3-man list with Davies and Rosler.

Bollocks.

Martinez signed Diame, Moses, McCarthy, Al Habsi.

Bruce signed Kapo for £3.5m, King for £5m and, wait for it - Jason Koumas for £5.3m!

Yes he brought in Valencia and Palacios, that does not make him God.

You're not arguing with me here, you're arguing with people who have watched them for a combined in excess of 40 years. But still, the view from your armchair in front of 5 minutes at the end of MotD is much clearer....

I was actually just stating my view on it, I realise it wasn't you I was arguing with.

Who gives a **** if they've been watching for 40 years? I'm talking Bruce/Martinez signings, not Rigby/Tiler

And yes, they obviously know their players better than anyone, but we (as in the whole Not606 nation) are a prime example of how fans can disagree between themselves about their own players, their word is no more fact than mine.

I'm sure that's true, but how can the manager of by far the smallest PL team with hardly any money or pulling power be expected to sign quality players? he has to take a gamble on every player he signs because he can't go on and get proven players. We tried that with Bullard and it nearly liquidated us.

You often see with fans of clubs in Wigan's position that they don't realise how lucky they are. They probably think because they finished 7th once (or whatever it was) and made the Carling Cup final they should be there every year but it isn't possible with such tiny gates. Just like the Blackburn fans who moan about Kean and QPR sacking Warnock (even if he is a ****). Yet (as I keep pointing out) no one has criticised McCarthy for doing a far worse job at Wolves when he has spent a **** load on some good players and still managed to almost relegate Wolves by February.

Anyway, if we're talking about bad signings Bruce brought loads of players at Sunderland with varying degrees of succes, with way more money than Martinez has at Wigan.

Nope, Paul Jewell took Valencia to Wigan.

well in that case I believe you need to check the meaning of FACT in a dictionary

FACT.

Why - what have I got wrong? It is FACT that I was giving quotes from people who are Wigan season ticket holders. I await with baited breath what wasnt FACT about that.

here's another FACT from the Stone Roses thread that you kindly reported to the world..

"Say what you like about The Clash but they gave the world the greatest album sleeve of all time.

FACT."

In your opinion and maybe many others but it remains SUBJECTIVE and not a FACT
