The people smugglers are not stupid.
They know only one thing will put their customers off crossing the sea in those dangerous boats. Mass drownings.
Sorry, most of the above belongs in the politics thread I expect.
No, you have the correct thread, as almost every other problem in the country is eased if we control immigration and only let in those who truly benefit the country and want to integrate into it rather than divide it.

Housing, hospitals, schools, prisons, the welfare state - all bloated beyond sanity by needless migration.

A million youngsters out of work because there are too many applying for each job, even the most menial of positions that should be the preserve of school leavers.

An attempted beheading in Belfast perpetrated by a Somalian, presumably low IQ. Starmer says he won't tolerate this, yet he has no power to stop it now that we have thousands upon thousands of undocumented men wandering around.

But let's just keep on waving these through without a clue who they are or what their intentions are.

It is madness.

Sadly, I think removing all illegal migrants & stopping more from coming (even if it could be done) will not suddenly make our lazy, greedy, sleazy, corrupt politicians into fine upstanding leaders.

They have failed us in every respect, not only border control.
Crucially, even our defence capability is now practically zero.

One nuclear armed submarine at sea, three out of commission.
Our entire attack submarine fleet in dock, unseaworthy.
Billions wasted decade after decade.

All the Russian Navy needs to do is cut a few undersea cables, and the UK is paralysed.
I don't know why Putin doesn't just go ahead and do it.

I don't believe (as many do) that this Country is finished.
But it is weaker than it has ever been in nearly 1,000 years.
All thanks to a succession of Prime Ministers who have failed in their duty.

To think, we stood at the pinnacle of Global influence 80 years ago, along with the USA and the USSR.
Allies who saved Humanity from a new Dark Age of eugenics, tyranny and genocide.
Now we are a joke.

You must be mistaken as the Green Party candidate on QT said that there was no direct link between housing shortages and importing 10 million extra people into the country.

And there are no foreign criminals in our prisons.

And no foreigners claim any sort of benefits at all.

And their children are all educated at home by their doctor/lawyer/engineer parents so don’t take up school places.

And foreigners don’t take jobs on below minimum wage and shut out young British people as a result.

And of course they don’t use NHS services, as they know it would be wrong to take without giving.

VOTE GREEN

I woke up to messages about this, and went on an Irish news channel.

NOW we will see SERIOUS disorder, whether people like it or not.

Restore Britain will let Burnham in, unless they agree not to run.
Many now feel that Farage & Reform are too soft.

I don't think all those turncoat Tory ministers (the slippery Jenrick for example) have done Nigel any favours.
They make a few bold noises, but they smell of failure.

Sadly I think you’re correct. The right vote is being split, so very unlikely Reform will get in.

As I said though, a few more of the Belfast incidents before next Thursday could change things, but again I can’t see the widespread disorder in the country coming quickly enough.

Burnham will get in, become Labour leader and the country will just go down the toilet a little more quickly.

If the current Government claims any credit for nobody crossing the Channel in bad weather then it insults people's intelligence.
Which is exactly what Rishi Sunak's Government did.
One of the most pathetic spectacles of the last few years in Parliament was watching Labour and Conservative politicians arguing over who gets the credit for temporary dips in illegal boat crossing numbers, when everybody knows it was 100% down to the weather.

Politicians deny reality. They deny science. They take people for fools.
They spend all their time manoeuvring and plotting their own schemes to gain power and privilege.
While outside the Westminster Bubble society grinds to a halt.

No justice - the legal system has effectively collapsed. Five year waits for trials.
No healthcare - The NHS and social care are crippled and on the point of collapse.
No housing - it is considered a good thing for the economy that only millionaires can afford to buy a home.
No policing - coppers are tied up in regulations and are attacked by everyone, politically and physically.
No education - collapsing schools, worthless degrees, massive student debts.
No way to make ends meet.
No decent jobs, except for a tiny elite.
No border controls.
No protection for kids from online perverts and hate-mongers.
Criminality everywhere. Shop lifting, drug selling, gangs in control of high streets.

The British People ignored, betrayed, sold out. No help for anyone except the richest 1%, who gorge more and ever more.
40 years of lies and self-serving incompetence from our so-called leaders.
Now we have the Greens (old Labour lefties 2.0) and Reform UK (Conservatives 2.0) claiming they have the answers.
Same tired old pantomime.

Sorry, most of the above belongs in the politics thread I expect.
But the migrant crisis - like all the others listed above, is a symptom of the lack of leadership Britain has suffered from since the 1980's.
I think the one thing to stop the crossings is to stop the handouts they receive- no hotels , no money , no phones etc etc ! Unfortunately we’re the soft touch compared to the rest of Europe and until we toughen up this is their gravy train

Exactly what the French say wen we moan at them to stop the boats on their side.

Take away all benefits and all possibility of asylum if you come here illegally and they’ll largely stop coming.

Problem solved overnight.

That may slow the influx gradually over time.
I'm sure though that the smugglers would sell their customers the line that they can earn cash in the black economy.

It would do more than slow it gradually over time. Not saying there won’t be any illegal entrants, but it would have a dramatic effect and any that did get through wouldn’t be a problem because they’d be locked up behind razor wire and walls, out of the public’s way and feeding on pig swill.

They’d soon be requesting to go back to France and as soon as they did, word would spread further - “Don’t go to the UK”.

Here we go. The Irish know how to get what they demand. The problem is, the politicians who are responsible will be safe and protected in their ivory towers, while ordinary men and women Police Officers will bear the brunt of the anger. It’s disgusting.

Whilst politicans will speak out criticising the protesters and overlooking why this is happening.

They’re doing it already, saying that if people want justice for the victim and to help the victim’s family, that they should stay indoors and not riot, as rioting won’t help the legal process.

Well the anger isn’t being directed at the scum who committed last nights offence - it’s being directed at the policies which allowed him and hundreds of thousands of others into our country and into our neighbourhoods.

Pc Rain has arrived in Belfast and is calming things a little. However it’s going to be a long night for the emergency services.
