I agree it's necessary to view Diane Abbot's message in context.
She was making her point in a very blunt manner.

I would take more issue with the wording of the BBC headline.
Those drowned people were not migrants. Their migration was never completed.
They were Human beings.
41 people died in that shipwreck off Italy.

If a cruise liner sank and 41 well off tourists drowned it would be a massive story.
Sadly, many people who would be aghast at such a tragedy simply harden their hearts and look away from this one.

100,000 illegal immigrants have now arrived in the UK by small boats in the last 5 years. Although to be fair, the boats aren’t exactly small anymore.

They can now carry eighty fit, healthy young men, who have all very unfortunately lost all their identity documents in the channel, on the way over from that war torn country known as France. Remind me again what exactly is the war in France all about ?

And even better news is that the figures are still going up. A probable record today with possibly 600 illegal immigrant men escaping from the bombimgs, deaths, rape and torture being carried out daily in France. At this rate we’ll need two new barges per day very soon.

Having said that, I gather Dover is a very nice place to live.

When my landlord gets around to hiking the rent I'll be after a bunk on that barge.
Better than a shop doorway.

We've signed a deal with Turkey to stop the people smugglers. That should stop them:huh:.

Migrants being moved off the Bibby Stockholm barge after traces of Legionella bacteria were found in the water.

Looking forward to members of the government and Daily mail reporters being moved on!!

Piss up and Brewery spring to mind.

Now that Robert Jenrick has admitted that it is government policy not to process asylum claims in case it encourages other asylum seekers, it seems to me that they don't want anyone to come to the UK at all. So who's going to do the sh1t jobs that we Brits don't want to do?

So the massive backlog in asylum claims being processed is not just down to incompetence - it is Government policy?
That just takes the biscuit.

And it makes the true intention of the Rwanda policy clear.
To deport all migrants permanently, while the sham of their asylum applications being processed is stretched out forever.
To dump thousands of Human beings in Africa, the way we already dump tons of toxic garbage there.

What will the Government do once the deportations begin?
Produce propaganda videos of happy asylum seekers digging allotments and working in factories where they have been resettled?
Is this shameful policy to become Britain's Big Lie?

Big fanfare, putting 40 hapless migrants onto a floating fire safety death trap with Legionella in the water supply.
Beggars belief.

The Home Office has sunk to a new low of sheer incompetence.
They're in a deep, deep hole. But they just keep on digging.
Cruella ought to resign - again.

This is an absolutely perfect example of a Government obsessed with using a grave issue to play election politics, rather than just getting on with doing the job it was elected to do.

For over a decade we have had an asylum application system that has not been fit for purpose.
By simple incompetence we thought, probably due to years of lack of funding (like every other service).
Now it appears the disfunction was actually Government Policy. An ill-conceived attempt to dissuade migrants from coming here because their applications would take forever to process. While in the meantime they would be free to put down roots and start families here etc.
Surely the most counter-productive, self-defeating policy in Conservative Party history.
Break the system deliberately.

Now with a General Election spanking on the horizon suddenly the Prime Minister and his heartless Home Secretary want to look tough to the Electorate. So we get the Rwanda Policy, the notion of internment camps on old army bases, and finally The Barge.
So hostility to migrants becomes one of Rishi's five pledges. Something he bangs on and on about like some malfunctioning AI chatbot.
While other pledges (like cutting NHS waiting lists) are simply ignored because the Dept. of Health won't sit down and talk to striking Doctors.

So after not one deportation flight to the Republic of Genocide to celebrate, we get the cameras wheeled out to cover a couple of dozen men tramping up a gang plank onto that floating dormitory - 100% safe we are assured - designed for around 200 oil rig workers but modified to cram in 500 people.
Oh yes, very safe.
Then two days later the handful of residents have to be evacuated, some of them already sick, because a potentially lethal bacteria has been detected in their drinking water.
And that moron Jenrick insists with a straight face that the evacuation is a temporary measure, and as soon as they've flushed some Domestos through the plumbing the migrants will be loaded back onboard for another episode of public humiliation.
What planet is he on? Does he have any concept of what he sounds like?

This whole business is truly a monumental farce.
As farcical as Partygate. It shows that Rishi Sunak and his whole Party are long past their sell-by date. They deserve to be dumped out of office at the earliest opportunity. Then if he wants to carry on jetting around the Country he can pay for it himself out of the colossal fortune he married, rather than freeloading via the RAF.

Notice that those who ramp up the rhetoric are the children of immigrants
Sunak, Braverman, Patel, Farage .

All true.

But unfortunately we then get Labour and Sir Snear.

The country is F*cked.

But can someone explain why the survivors are being taken to Dover when this happened about 5 miles from the French coast ?

Last time I looked the channel was still over 20 miles wide at its narrowest point.

Sadly Rwanda and a barge are not effective in stopping the crossings.
The only thing that has ever been effective is bad weather.

There is no practical way to stop the crossings unless the entire North Western coastline of mainland Europe is secured.
Even Hitler never achieved that, despite the unlimited resources at his disposal.

The EU and Britain, and all the countries of the Near East and North Africa should sit down together and thrash out a joint strategy.
How much would we really be willing to sacrifice in order to stop the boats?
Safe refugee regions in North Africa and the Near East, policed by the UN and funded and jointly run by European Nations?

Unless we begin to think in those terms we might as well sit on a chair on the beach at Dover and command the tide not to come in.
