This is the sad truth.
If news of hundreds of men, women and children dying at sea won't deter others from trying, tales of being housed on barges or flown away to Rwanda certainly won't. I think even if 50% of these boat people drowned instead of less than 1%, thousands would keep coming and take their chance.
Properly managed legal routes and a functioning process / appeal system are the least worst long term options.
Along with joined up thinking about how migrants can best contribute (in the NHS, social care system, agriculture, service sector etc).
Plus a proper crackdown on gangmasters and the 'black' (cash in hand) economy.
Not knee jerk policies that divide the Nation.
