As the next Election approaches, Labour continues to repaint itself as the Conservative Party.
Now they've said they will use barges to house asylum seekers as well.
Words fail me. <doh>
They need to keep up.

Barges are just so last week.

The new plan is……..fly them 4,000 miles to Ascension Island <doh>

Current population about 1,000.

Expected illegal immigrant UK arrivals 2023 about 25,000.

What could possibly go wrong :emoticon-0181-fubar

Why can we not have a long term policy on this issue, not just gimmick after gimmick to appease Daily Mail readers.
That question applies to most other Government policies as well.

Labour should not join in the game of de-humanising illegal migrants, and taking pride in being cruel to them.
It doesn't make Labour look tough.

They’re not being de-humanised.

Tory, Labour, Lib-Dem, SNP, Reform, Monster Raving Looney, they all face the same issue. They have to come up with a way to stop this. It’s no good just saying there isn’t a way to stop it. It’s the job of the Government (whatever party that is) to deal with a major problem which is hugely damaging to the country.

Otherwise you could apply the same logic to every problem.

War in Ukraine - it’s difficult to solve so we won’t even try.

Inflation - it’s difficult to solve so we won’t even try

Over-population - it’s difficult to solve so we won’t even try

Climate warming - it’s difficult to solve so we won’t even try

Crime - it’s difficult to solve so we won’t even try

Now I hear Cruella is going to crack down on "rogue" immigration lawyers.

Well bravo <applause>
But (at the risk of sounding like a stuck record) it's been 13 years.
Why have these rogue lawyers been able to flourish and build this corrupt industry for so long?
Whose watch was it on?

To listen to Sunak and his freak circus, you'd think they only came to power last Wednesday.

Make no mistake Lee Anderthal's "F*** off back to France" is exactly what he was put there for. And it works, stops people talking about the state of the NHS, the economy, fuel bills, cost of living crisis, interest rates, crime, housing, you name it. Just keep up the focus on immigration and the culture war. This is what today's Conservative Party has become.

Maybe if the home office started to process the claims instead of allowing them to pile up?
They can’t afford to process, they’re too busy cutting back on policing, schooling and health care to tally the books with their obscene overspending on hotels for immigrants, jolly ups and second house etc - shame Tory boy Royston isn’t on here anymore

Most of the cost of hotels comes out of the foreign aid budget, which we reduced below our international commitment a few years ago anyway. I can't really think of a single area of success for this government. Can anyone?

Most of the cost of hotels comes out of the foreign aid budget...

That's interesting. I didn't know that.
So the more money that goes on hotel bills, the less goes out to aid projects overseas.

In other words the soaring hotel bills for illegal asylum seekers is not cutting money from UK social projects.
It is starving funds for medical facilities, schools & well digging (etc) in the poorest parts of the World.

I wasn’t aware of that either - does that include the full medical , dental checks , clothing + cash and mobile phones or is it just the accommodation that comes out of the foreign aid budget ?

I didn't know it until a few days ago when I heard it on the radio. I didn't hear any analysis of it though. I think it was from a reliable commentator.

Therein lies the rub. Maybe if they had spent the money on processing the immigrants rather than just piling them up in hotels, we might have to spend less on said hotels. Plus I can't remember the percentage of how many are approved but let's say it was 60% (I think it's higher but I don't have a number). Those people could be working now - paying tax, and there is a shortage of manual labour in the UK. It's not a long term fix, but the current situation could probably be better organised if we had five year olds in charge.

Are you sure that’s correct ?

I believe the bill for the illegal immigrants’ hotels comes out of the Home Office budget, so I presume that’s not the foreign aid budget.

However, if I am wrong then fair enough, but I would ask “why does it matter which budget it comes from ?”. It is all from the same source - the British taxpayer, so whatever budget it comes from, it is wrong and we should be doing a lot more to stop it.
