Think this would be great news in one way but bad in another. Good way obviously because we know what a good player Turner is, but bad in that it might send out the wrong message to our current backs, they're only young and could see it as a bad thing for them. It'll need Barmbs to put his arm round their shoulders and convince them it's good for the club and they're still in his plans.
Would we really welcome him back with open arms after the way he left us...?!? Don't be naive enough to think he was entirely innocent of the farce that was his departure! The last thing we want is an old(ish) defender on mega bucks coming in and upsetting the camp - there are players here (Garcia etc) who remember him leaving us last time... Our CB position is sound at the minute and I would much rather see us going back to Cardiff for one of the players of our last season than get Turner back in.
I agree, doesn't make much sense to me to have Turner even on loan, as he will want games, and unless there are plans to sell Chester, which I doubt, then leaving out either Hobbs or Chester would be breaking up what is starting to be a good partnership.
He is just 28. In his prime. Would love to see him back here but seems far fetched too me. O'Neill must be losing his touch if he cant see Turner is better than Titus Bramble and Wes Brown.
The main thing that struck me throughout that transfer farce was that initially Turner didn't give any indication that he wanted to leave. He didn't say anything while Brown was broadcasting that he was unsettled and as far as I can remember the only time he suggested he was willing to go was when the greedy ba5tards virtually had him in the taxi to Sunderland.
I can see why the talks (might) have taken place: - 1. Some club such as Bolton/Everton/L£st£r are looking to pay £4million or more for Chester. 2. With Ches gone, we need someone in ASAP of similar quality. 3. Turner available for about £2.5M maybe - and he didn't want to leave, so is open to a return if MO'N deosn't want him. or - he just comes on a loan deal till the end of the season to fill the gap left by Chester. If we go up, maybe he stays on a permanent deal. 4. Barmby has the difference between the two transfers spend in the window (or all of it if it's just a loan deal) plus the £3 million to blow on Billy Sharp. 5. Not that I want to see Ches go, but it's Christmas and I'll drink to that!
What "way" that he left?? Mike Turner is an honest hard-working pro. He didn't lie to the fans in the way Campbell and his father did, or Nigel Pearson did. He was offered a position at a bigger Club and we wer'e more than happy to sell him due to the failings of the then board. Haven't a clue what you mean by "oldish" either. He's in his prime. All that being said, this just isn't going to happen for many reasons.
I hope it's not the case. CI are also saying that Boro want Olofinjana, I'd prefer it if we didn't sell players to our promotion rivals
from the bits and pieces ive seen of Turner at Sunderland (albeit on TV )i dont see him as all that. While at city ..... thats a different story.
Phillip Brown can be accused of many things but he certainly managed to get the best out of Michael Turner, albeit with the aid of Wayne Brown, who we should sign as a defence coach.
Would love to see him back here, but he is premiership quality and I can't see him dropping down to the Championship. If we were to get promoted and he's being overlooked by MON he could be a target in the summer.
Yes that bit was added for comedy value He loved it round Hull and the area you know... I spoke to his dad in a car park once.
If previous press reports are to be believed then it would be the English Defence League..... No thanks.
Bloody hell Bob not you too. If the plod catch on to this there will be an extra 200 coppers offering police protection to the fathers of City players at every home game. Tickler could be like Mrs Doyle-" you'll stay wont you? You will you will you will you will you will you will. Whisper it quietly but just been told a Merc with the number plate PAV1 is entering Millhouse Woods Lane!! Patience.
If there's anything in it I'd see it as MON not rating him highly enough to keep him, but thinking he's too good for them to be selling to their relegation rivals (ie Bolton who are about to lose Cahill must be aware with Ricketss playing for them). That would force him to either sit on his arse or join a Championship club for a few months. It'll then be done as a loan with a view to a permanent if we get promoted, MON won't have the same argument against selling him to someone in the summer because they won't be viewing themselves as relegation fodder for next season so if we don't get promoted he can still sign for one of the PL sides having shown he's back to fitness and form. From our point of view we need to have 3 centrebacks available to us for suspensions and injuries, we've got lucky so far. With McShane being told he can go and get games if someone wants to play him we need to be trying to sign someone. If Turner came in he'd get the full game in the Cup (assuming he's ready to play 90) to allow Hobbs/Chester either half a game each or a complete rest after the Xmas games. He'd also cover Chester's suspension when it inevitably comes.
