4 in 11, including several sub appearances. According to the Millwall fans and manager he was 'very poor' or something to that effect. Obviously form never stays the same but 4 in 11 equates to 16, 17 goals a season - and that's when he's playing terribly, apparently. For the record I don't actually think he would get 20-odd goals, I just wish he'd actually had half a chance in the first team - if Tevez can **** off to Argentina for 3 months and still be allowed back in the first team, why can't Simpson get a chance, even if he hasn't been scoring hattricks in the reserves?
Correct. OJ is not good enough for our reserve team at the moment. The fact that Millwall did not want to keep him says it all. Feck him.
He scored 4 in 16 at Millwall, which is better than the 6 in 38 he's scored for us, but it's hardly on a par with Fyratt and he couldn't get in the Millwall team at the end either.
3 of Fryatt's last season and 1 of Simpson's. I'm not sure of the stats for this season, I remember Fryatt missing one, but I think he scored one too?
I don't want to be picky but that's likely to be very close indeed to what Fryatt will finish the season on. 4 in 16 is the same as 12 in 48, Fryatt is on 11 now and has played pretty much every game, if he gets one more goal (probably quite likely) they will be exactly the same. I don't really have any opinion on this either way, but I couldn't understand the statement that it's hardly on a par with Fryatt.
I do find it astonsishing that Cullen makes our bench. Surely he would not get a sniff @ any of the other clubs pushing for promotion? Shows we lack strikers
It is if you completely ignore the fact that he's actually scored 6 in 38 for us and Fryatt's scored 20 in 63.
A bit harsh on Cullen, he has scored lots of goals in the Reserve games and behind closed doors games so it makes no sense for people to be calling for Simpson to play (who has not scored recently in Reserves etc) and then being hard on Cullen. I would like to see him play at least a full half to see what he can do. It must be hard for any player to come on with only 10 or so minutes to go and then make an impact on the game. I think it was OLM that said Cullen had his confidence destroyed by Nige so I will give him the benefit of the doubt until I have a longer spell of play to judge him on.
It depends if you live by the stats, which I don't. Simpson played about half a season without scoring but (if my memories serves me right) he only had two or three clear cut chances in that entire time, if that. Fryatt needs five one-on-ones before he actually scores. I know I've built up a reputation for backing Simpson regardless, but I promise I'd shut up if he was given a decent number of games and he did absolutely **** As for Cullen, I don't think we've ever seen him through on goal! People keep mentioning reserves - if we were playing good reserve teams then fair enough, but we're playing teams like Gatestead Reserves.. Anyway, that pointless exercise at the start of the match where they all shoot on goal - he seems to snatch at every single one of them and mishit half of them - and that's with no pressure on him. I'm not convinced he's the real deal.
There's something about Simpson beyond his abilities that rubs managers up the wrong way. In the few games he's played for us he has arguably formed a better understanding with Simpson than any of our other strikers. He even set up Simpson's Ipswich goal in the only two or three minutes he has played since returning. Maybe he's got bad breath, I don't know, but there is something about him they don't like.
