<laugh> at the idiot Mackems going nuts over Dick staying... They really do have short memories. How many managers is it now that have come in for the last few games, saved them, then been turned on the following season and promptly sacked whilst languishing near the bottom 3.... Wonder who the next messiah will be <doh>

They won't do anything, we won't do anything, we'll both be scrabbling to survive again and unfortunately it'll come down to who wins a couple of poor quality derby matches and who finishes 16th, as to which club gets the bragging rights.

I honestly think Dick will have them around the lower mid-table for most of the season (10-14th). Not really 'safe' until April but never really in danger either. He's not spectacular or revolutionary but he seems a safe pair of hands and someone who can start making changes to the personnel so the club is a more attractive proposition in 12 months time. I think that is what fans are excited about, not some expectation he is going to win them trophies or take them to Milan for matches.

Shawcross would be fantastic for us but I don't share the belief he would come. I'm not averse to bringing in the best prospects in the championship as plenty of players have come through in the last decade and been at home in the premiership I'm just not convinced Lascalles is that good even in the championship.

a bit hard on Dummet/Haidara, but probably not).

No your not being hard. Dummet is dogshit. I saw some article by that ****er Ryder the other day saying he is the no-nonsense sort of defender that McClaren will love. If Steve has this sort of ******ed mindset, then God ****ing help us.

We're happy because he's clearly the best option out there for us <doh>

Great post. I agree.

I also thiink they have done well to get him to stay and it could work out very well for them. Nobody is going to be shouting for him to go as its only a 1 year contract. If he is also planning on retiring afterwards he can focus as much on building for future rather than short term success.
Over the last couple of seasons Sunderland have been hampered by number of changes in playing staff they have had. Think we have to be careful we don't suffer from same this time.
Think we need to concentrate on 3-4 solid defenders and 1 striker and let McLaren sort out a solid midfield from what we have got. Surely we can come up with something to sut most situations from Colback, Abeid, Tiote, Aarons, Sissoko, Anita, De Jong, Cabella

I think you've plucked that out of your arse mate. :p

Elis isn't giving it to him really, he's giving it to our DoF. Investment was one of Dick's conditions but he'll be working with Lee Congerton. Dismiss it if you like fella, Makes no mater to me, my club is off for some desperately needed shopping.

Two solid gold sources in Twitter and Talk Sport....
Time will tell either way I suppose.

You've got to assume that McClaren will go after Will Hughes at some point this summer, £7m I'd say otherwise there's better value elsewhere.

From Twente, his best signing 2nd time around was probably Dusan Tadic, McClaren really got the best out of him after signing him, turned him up a level and got him looking like the player Koeman signed for Southampton. Koeman taking a lot of credit for that player ever since. You won't be prising him away from The Saints in a hurry.

He's got a good eye for a player, I think he should be considered a valuable asset with regards to player recruitment by you lot, that Carr bloke isn't all he's cracked up to be, McClaren could certainly point out a few players I think.

I don't think anyone thinks Shawcross would come. Why leave Stoke for us? Unless Ashley were to back up his big claims, we are just another one of the relegation fodder. Shawcross is at Stoke who will always hover around mid table, never really in trouble. They have players who know the league who give it everything. The likes of Bardsley, Shawcross, Crouch, Adam, Begovic, Moses, Walters, N'Zonzi, Whelan - Not spectacular but solid base to work from. Exactly we need!

Not convinced about anything regarding Ashley. I think he will have to spend a bit because he's not actually stupid but he'll want to spend the minimum amount he thinks he can get away with and still stay in the league. We got Lascelles last summer and he will be touted as one of our new CB signings, we NEED another one who is proven either in the prem or generally - a Shawcross/ Ashley Williams type of solid but unspectacular (we wouldn't get either of those though).

I think we have some of the flair around (Cisse, Perez, Cabella, Siem De Jong, Aarons) and some decent pace (the one thing the likes of Sameobi and Obertan have) but we lack the backbone and the cutting edge. Our midfield is far from great (Sissoko, Tiote, Colback, Anita, De Jong, Cabella, Aarons, etc) but it's lightyears ahead of our defence!! (Janmaat + crap. Maybe a bit hard on Dummet/Haidara, but probably not).

I don't that's harsh on Dummett or Haidara at all. Dummett may have a modicum of promise as a centre back but no more. Don't even get me started on Haidara, he's ****ing garbage. He's quick and whips the odd good ball. He is clueless defensively and his passing is moronic. His ball control is akin to non league. Once every match without fail the ball will go straight under him trying to trap the ball. It is scary at professional level. We can't blame Carver etc for that, its the basics of a pro footballer.

You are bang on, we have one good defender. Janmaat. He is only good at present, because he has shown weakness in the 2nd half of the season getting caught out of position. Our defensive options are bloody woeful. Colo and Willo had absolute shockers. Saylor is a write off. I'm not convinced with this Lascelles at all. This is Ashley's legacy at the moment - a defence which has got progressively worse over a 5 year period.

Lets hope so. The lad is a talent but I'd be surprised if he didn't have other suitors.

When are they going to announce ANY manager? They have had since January to sort this out, now we only days away from the window opening again and they don't seem any closer to sorting anything out. We need a new manager and new players before we start pre-season but at this rate we will have no-one over the mythical line by the start of the season...and have sold our best players ;)

Sky seem to think it's a done deal after Steve Mc comes back from his holidays, next week.

So, we are getting Schteve when Garde is available, Vieira is available and now Watford have appointed Sanchez Flores as manager :(

Our board need a right ****ing seeing to! <doh>

You're right it could of or should of been better but it could of been a lot worse too.

At least an upgrade on Pardew, just how much remains to be seen.
