It'll be live on Sky or BT, whoever has the 12:30 spot... Worried........... nah, petrified............oh yes.
Need to get some signings in. Would have thought we'd be trying to keep the advantage of being promoted earlier to have the signings in by now so they can join pre-season training. Perhaps I'm just impatient.
Just watched most of the friendly. The boys looked sharp with some nice touches. Good teamwork . Defence still has its moments but the fullbacks look good. Mitro looks lean, fit and hungary. Esteril are a reasonable side- in the champions league recently so beating them 3-1 was a good result. Should have been 3-0 as the pen looked dodgy. Hopeful for the upcoming season+ especially if we can sign a CB.
Yes, we played well and much of the style from last season, with our new signings doing a fine job. We do need to find a keeper, Rodak dithered and looked nervous, in a friendly!!!!!!!
The big day has arrived, Liverpool at the Cottage and the first game to survive in the EPL. It's live on Sky, and it's live again at the Cottage. Surviving the LFC onslaught for the first 20 mins will be key, perhaps we will surprise them............
Mitrovic has had Van Dyke on toast, love Mitro to be honest. Hope he has a great season and our fans give him a cheer when he comes up our way.
Well that's not a bad result. And Mitro the championship striker how can't make it in the Premier scores twice. Feeling a bit more confident!
Well, well, well, we surprised Liverpool and me. A very good team effort, everyone looked sharp and confident, excellent game and result.
it was more a case of us trying and failing to survive your onslaught for the first 45 mins . You were the better team for the vast majority of the game and were clearly well up for it and only late on did we have the upper hand . Continue like that and you will be staying up this time.
Really good atmosphere in the ground before KO. We've set the standards now of how well we can play, need to keep it up. Palhinha & Reed bossed the midfield 1st half.
The storyline of the opening weekend for us is going to be around Mitrovic and the ridiculous narrative that he can't be a good striker at this level. He played really well against one of the top defenders in the world, he looks fitter than he ever has opening a season before and he has a team built to give him chances. Let us hope he really puts that narrative to bed over the next 2-3 games. However I think the real storyline of the opening weekend was how effectively we pressured Liverpool when they had the ball. For the first time in a long time we pressed as a team and that forced mistakes out of Liverpool and stopped them getting into a higher gear. For years we have only pressed as individuals, especially our wingers, and that gave the opposition so many routes out. This time the midfield three of Pereira/Reed/Paulinha pressed together and used our wingers as outlets. I think this will be Silva's plan through the season and as long as we bring in sufficient squad options to enable us to keep playing this way, it will do us very well.
Just had a set back, played a Chelsea XI behind closed doors and Manor Solomon has picked up a knee injury, which will be assessed tomorrow, but reports saying it may be bad and he'll be out for 3 months. So that's Wilson injured against Villa in a game behind closed doors and now Solomon. Guess we'll have to either get someone else in or rely on Cavaleiro to be back up for Kebano.
Yes, a really tough game, it was hard work watching in the sun soaked stand, let alone playing for 90+mins. The assistant ref was awful, she let play go on when clear offsides were eventually called, and our players pushed to the ground or pulled all over the place without a foul given. Our wing play wasn't good enough and the lack of back up was apparent when Jay had to be introduced. Very tough, but a decent draw at the end of the day.
