Makes me chuckle when people think that players don’t go out to deliberately hurt other players.

Of course they do and if you ask me that’s exactly what Cahill did.

Maybe not to the extent it turned out but he knew what he was doing.

He jumped into that challenge, no doubt to win the ball but he also wanted a piece of Mason with it, suppose he got what he wanted.

Guess I’m a ****ing idiot as well then for seeing it that way.

Good luck Ryan, kind of puts football into perspective when you face a life threatening injury.

On the subject of Cahill. Whether he did it on purpose or not is irrelevant (I don't think he did). If people go in with studs up late, and catch a player ever so slightly they are sent off, whether they meant to hurt him or not. Cahill was reckless and late, therefore a sending off. If anyone can explain why this is any different to a late tackle with your feet I'd love to hear it and happily be proved wrong.

There isn't a good reason, but the way football is it's just accepted that this happens with aerial challenges.

Deliberate or not, I don't know, but I'm certain he didn't aim to almost kill Ryan.

But Cahill went on to score in that game. Nothing wrong with that either.

It's was the way he celebrated his goal that pissed me off.

Although my heart goes out to the lad it has to be the right decision. His life could have been at risk if he continued to play .. so good luck to you young man and all you do in the future.

He wasn't getting anywhere near the ball really, the best you could say was that he was trying to unbalance Mason by clattering into him. It was a foul.

Thinking it was a foul is perfectly reasonable, thinking it was assault is what's way over the top.

I was taught by my old man when you're a defender, first challenge let him head the ball you head the back of his head. Let him know.
When I was at city as a kid they'd tell you to do it too.

That was ****ing deliberate from Cahill, not a chance of that ball. As you say pro's do it.

    Gary Cahill‏ @GaryJCahill
Devastated to hear today’s news from Ryan. Competing for a corner is something we’ve done thousands of times and to see those consequences for a top professional like Ryan is heartbreaking. Sending all my love to him and his family, and wishing him the best for the future.

Entirely the correct decision. Wishing Ryan and his family all the very best for the future. I am sure that we all agree with these sentiments and hope that something rewarding and enjoyable turns up for him within the game that he loves.

You just have to look at the indentation on the right side of his skull to appreciate that he is making absolutely the right decision. Best of luck Ryan, enjoy your life and family.

Quite, what do people expect him to say. Obviously there will be a bit more focus on him right now, so people will be expecting him to make a comment.

Daws( experienced centre half) on SSN said earlier that he expected Chiellini( experienced centre half) to clobber Kane in the first ten minutes.

‘Leave something on him’ is what I think he said.

Exactly what Cahill( experienced centre half) did to Mason.

    Accident my arse.

Unwitten rule was always to "let your opponent know you're there". Keeps them guessing when the next one was coming.
