Very sad news.
Even though it's been half expected for a long time, it was still a big shock to read.
Obviously it isn't the main thing, but what effect will this have on City financially?
Ususly there’s an insurance payout to us to the value of his contract. It won’t recoup the money paid but it’s better than nothing.
I’ll bet that was an almightily tough decision from Ryan, but hopefully he will stick around and help in the dressing room with morale.
Do we know that though? I know they're mentioned often but I've heard people say that insurance for footballers is and isn't a thing. Not sure which is true.

Yeah I remember that.Duffen spread a lot of light over player insurance and said it was indeed very rare as it was far too costly to be feasible to cover anything worthwhile.
A career ending injury is covered by the PFA, they have cover on all professional footballers.
I think there's also a requirement for all clubs to insure their players now, but I think it's fairly basic cover (can't remember where I read this), they also have to have private medical insurance paid for by the club.
No idea if there's any insurance to cover the club's costs.
Irrespective of the cost of his transfer, he must be one of the biggest earners, so whether or not we carry on paying that wage seems significant too.
That's definitely **** news. Still annoys me that a foul wasn't even given against the Arsenal player. Not Mason's fault at all but this turned out our worst transfer ever. If we ever do get a big transfer purchase again I hope we get better luck than we've had the last few years from Bullard onwards.
Yep, should have given a foul against Arsenal, whoever they were playing that day, just because they are Arsenal.
But then also sent off Cahill.
Of course it wasn't premeditated, but I still maintain it was a badly timed, reckless leap by and contact ('assault') from Cahill. He went recklessly flying into Mason, eyes closed. Shouldn't matter whether it's on the ground or in the air, it was a really bad challenge that went totally unpunished. That can't be right.
Of course, it pales into insignificance in comparison to Mason's resulting injury and retirement, but still it cost us very dear (effect on that game, possibly even our relegation and something approaching £20m lost (transfer fee, wages, treatment)).
