I went on their website so no-one else had to <laugh>

We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening.

We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer.

We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views. As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired.

We do not foresee those conditions being met.

This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.

Such a proud football club that they're answering Tweets at half past eleven at night!

FFS, they're actually having a row with people on the internet ...

... they should just post on here and have done with it <laugh>

If the rumours are correct the agreement about leaving was with Stavely, so I suppose as she no longer works for them that they're right. Might be stretching a point though:emoticon-0102-bigsm

It annoys me when people say 'a gentleman's agreement' isn't of any worth.

If I tell someone there'll be a ticket waiting for them at Burnley they should know they can leave Sunderland and have time for a pint before they pick it up ...

... they shouldn't need a written contract and neither should I.

If NUFC don't keep their word how will the next prospective signing feel about them ...

... they need to ask themselves if this is why players have chosen to go to Liverpool and Man Utd.

Newcastle are now desperately trying to avoid being seen to push Wissa into agitating for a move from Brentford and be seen as hypocrites ...

... or 'making a rod for your own back' as the saying goes.

Noticed he never mentioned the fans in that statement, you can guarantee they would have expected him to at least acknowledge the the "bestest and most pashunist fans in the wurld".

Hope i can get over the Redheugh bridge tomorrow :emoticon-0127-lipss.

I'm not sure if Staveley was involved but it was money related and goes back a long time.

Isak was under the impression he'd get a pay rise, someone high up thought they didn't need to pay him extra. Both sides dug their heels in.

Everything that's happened since had been down to poor communication and poor player management.

If I was looking after a player's interests I would want a ton of clauses in any future contract offered by NUFC.

The Mags are trapped in a vortex of sheer illogical stupidity that’s all their own making, it’s the ultimate ‘Catch 22’ situation …

… the more they scweam and scweam the worse they look and the more everyone laughs at them, which makes them scweam even more.

If Sunderland had failed in the playoffs this would’ve been just the boost we needed.

They’ve managed to win a trophy and set the club back ten years, all in one season <laugh>

We'll never know. But even if this is true, an agreement with an official of an organisation can be the same as an agreement of the organisation itself.

Stavely and her husband together had a management contract which had them running the club. There was no CEO at the time, and isn't now.

If the player was told something by either of those two, he is entitled to take it as a promise from the club.

But more fool him for trusting people like that. If you are going to have a "Gentleman's Agreement", make sure you have it with a gentleman.
