I dont get why Man United see trimming down ground staff as a viable money saving option, one of your senior players probably earns more in a week than 5 ground staff members annual wages combined. Selling just one of your dead wood players would make you more money than sacking probably all your non pitch touching staff.
Absolutely - the problem is that most of our squad are on ridiculously high wages which means we can't find buyers for them. And as for these redundancies and 'cost cutting' measures - it has become fkn embarrassing - the next thing will be the first team will all be given push bikes.

They can't just get rid of players, and it's obvious that the club has been run completely into the ground by the Glazers.

It's harsh on staff but it's obvious that costs need to be cut, or we go down the tube.

The way they are going about it in a horribly cynical business driven way is not good, and they say nothing by way of explanation. They aren't exactly getting us on side.

And in the meantime the team and its manager carry the can for it all, in the eyes of large sections of our TV watching support who are outraged and embarrassed by the situation.

What the **** do people have to be embarrassed about? We've had it good for a few decades and now we're having it ****e. That's the life of a football 'supporter', it's a million miles from embarrassing.

It's time to get behind the team and management, not turn on them.

Fkin bs!!

Give the man the ultimate credit where credit is due. He inherited what many deemed an aging team. Several players running out of contracts. He oversaw a massive shift from Klopp’s way of playing to a more disciplined team effort. And he did it without a recognized No 9. I forgot to add that he did not make a single signing. He fully took the team as his own team. No bs excuses!

Do we really think Amorim would be winning the league with the same Liverpool team? Not even Klopp would be winning this year with that team.

No **** he did, I bet he got a hard on about the players he inherited.

He inherited an almost title winning side, that Klopp had been building for nearly a decade.

It wasn't/isn't ageing, where on earth did you get that from?

Never mind what Amorim would do with that squad, what would Slot do with ours?
Because ours is utter garbage by comparison to Liverpool's. Sorry to drop that bomb.

Name me one player would even get in their current team.

The embarrassment is in the optics of it all - hot meals cut for staff ffs, Ratcliffe doesn't understand the basics of a business at this level, you simply can't make savage cuts at staff level and it not impact on morale throughout the club.

Look how this is all playing out in the media, it looks piss poor and reflects badly on the new club management in the same way that cutting fuel payments to pensioners did. These measures save insignificant amounts in the scheme of things, but they create ill-will in spades. Cut the freebies in the director's box and give the staff a hot meal ffs.

Wasn’t / isn’t Jim a Utd fan ?
I don’t proclaim to know anything about business - but is there any chance that INEOS are almost letting / aiding the club to sink as low as it can to attempt to force a takeover and finally get the club out of the Glazers clutches.

LFC’s issues with G&H were well documented - as I recall we were very close to the edge when we were rescued

is it just a game of brinksmanship on the business side ?

in terms of Amorim on the football side, maybe the club have known that things would go south with him and have agreed it (something they could never say in public) with a view to letting Amorim get a really good look at the squad.

all the media bullshit around you guys getting relegated is just ****. Utd will not get relegated with the squad they have even if I was feckin managing you.

so maybe the club have instructed Amorim to get a really good feel for the group - see what they are capable of. You have turned up to some of the bigger games and are well capable.

Could still end the season with an FA Cup and Europa (with CL qualification) - I think Amorim will come good if he can keep the players on board

This is not really a critical analysis.

If a club is not performing, the easiest thing to claim is that the squad is just terrible. But upon critical examination, that assertion will quickly fail under its own weight of contractions.
  • Are you seriously telling me that this United squad is truly fifteenth out of twenty?
  • But how do many of these awful players you claim make it to the international squad?
Now, let’s imagine Sir Alex managing this very same squad 14 years ago. I am certain everyone will agree that the outcome in performances would have been vastly different.

So what would be different in that picture?
The manager!
The strategy!
The game day execution!
The ability to make journey men punch above their weights!

Fkin talking sht in the press and making world of excuses ain’t it. Lack of consistency is the problem. Not lack of talent. And it is Amorim’s job to fix it.

You're pushing on an open door with me Bumps mate, try telling some of the others on here.

But may as well tell you now, they've got their fingers in their ears.

OK, always poor to go out of the FA Cup, especially as holders but the winners get 88p as opposed to the zillions we could earn in the Europa league, not to mention next season should we make it to the CL. Upwards and onwards.

Are you suggesting that it’s okay to lose Fulham at home because somehow we can now look forward to Europa?

We have an important EL game against Real Sociedad this week and many of the changes RA was forced to make were to preserve/protect players for that fixture. Given that if we can progress and win the EL we get entry to the CL, and given the financial pressures on the club, I can easily see how the EL had to be prioritised over the FA cup. Nobody likes to get kicked out of the premier domestic trophy but rather the EL than the FA cup given our current situation.

We had what was effectively the first team out there bar Eriksen and it was a terrible performance which has nothing to do with EL. If anything, we have now put all our eggs into a single basket and that’s not exactly a great strategy given how desperate we are in need to qualify for Europe.

Hard times, man!

Our squad is threadbare through injury, so one less trophy competition to contend with as the season stretches into spring could well be a good thing. Right now our sole focus has to be the EL, sad but pragmatic.

Delusion has taken root -

Amorim - Manchester United do not have to win this season's Europa League to make steps forward - the club can still attract top players without Champions League football next term.

Yeah right Ruben.......zzzzz

I actually think he’s right. Just look at all the mercenaries we have bought over the years without doing much on the pitch. But the question is whether we have enough left to keep on the same path and model.

But yes, he’s already making it clear that we won’t win.

On another note; why do clubs cut contracts with managers that are not contingent on minimum expected performance before they qualify for the insane payoffs when they are sacked?

Full text is here, instead of just a snippet;

"That is my view. I am here for three months and I think that is clear but I understand.

"It's a massive difference in our season, especially because we are out of the cups, in the bad position in the league.

"That could change a lot of things, even the way they see the coach, so I know it is a massive pressure. But I will say it again, Manchester United can call all of the best players even without Champions League in the future.

"I think that [winning the Europa League] is not a crucial thing for the future of the club.

"We have to change a lot of things and we are trying to do that. I understand that winning the Europa League can change everything for us in the next season."

What's delusional about that?

Yoro came to us, when Real were interested. de Ligt left Bayern. Ugarte left PSG.

He also doesn't say, at all, at any point, that we can't or won't win it.

I start to believe we are trying a lot of things when Amorim comes out with a plan b, starting with that futile formation. It probably suits Europe, but it is ineffective in the league.

Here you go, modern day football (social) media summed up.

It is especially applicable to a few posters on the premier league board;

There is an interesting paradox in modern society where people are free to be as uninformed as they like, but the moment someone points it out, they are considered the problem. Stupidity is often socially acceptable, and in some cases, even encouraged, whereas highlighting it is met with resistance. When someone expresses an opinion that is entirely based on misinformation, it is often tolerated or even defended, but when another person corrects them, they are suddenly perceived as rude or arrogant. It seems that ignorance is easier to accept than the discomfort of being proven wrong.

This situation is best explained by the Dunning-Kruger Paradox, which suggests that the less someone knows, the more confident they are in their knowledge, while those who actually understand a subject tend to question themselves more. Ignorance breeds overconfidence, whereas intelligence fosters doubt. As a result, those who know the least are often the loudest, and those who know the most are hesitant to speak. It creates an unfortunate dynamic where uninformed opinions are expressed with great certainty, and any attempt to correct them is seen as an attack.

It is an odd social norm. A person can confidently share a completely inaccurate fact they found online, and people will nod along politely. However, if someone corrects them with well-sourced information, the mood shifts, and the one providing accurate information is suddenly viewed as condescending. This leads to a world where people with no qualifications feel perfectly comfortable debating experts, and those with actual expertise must tread carefully to avoid upsetting those who don’t even realise how little they know.

Ignorance, it seems, enjoys full immunity, while intelligence is met with resistance. It is a curious arrangement, one that ensures misinformation continues to spread while accuracy remains an inconvenience.
