I've banged on about this before,but that is what made the Shankly inspired,Paisley era at Liverpool so special. The whole club played the same way,with the same ethic. Every player wanted to play there,and no-one wanted to leave..( well,apart from Gobby Kev! <laugh> )
That must be our aspiration.

I would hope that the new set up will bring in a whole-club ethos whereby the playing style and football culture is an ingrained part of the club, much like Ajax or Barcelona, irrespective of who is manager. Managers may come and go but all appointments will be made on whether or not they fit in with the club's character.

Absolutely! This has to be the aim. And,despite our lowly present status,and our obvious lack of success in the modern era,we musn't under-estimate our potential.
We have three undeniable assets which all but a handful of PL clubs would kill for.....a bought and paid for modern stadium,with a 48k capacity,and the ability to increase to 64k without the modern"cost per seat" that clubs like Spurs have been faced with, a Category 1 Academy and player development facilities,and,last,but not least,a passionate fan base,the numbers and enthusiasm of which,in reality,defies all known logic throughout the football world!

We do have a glorious past, in the history of English football, we are one of the great clubs of this land.
I'm hoping, beyond normal hope, that we are on the verge of beginning to reinstate ourselves as one of England's great clubs again.
As fans,we have always known we are a great club.....but the record books don't back us up.
I'm hoping this is the beginning of our time!

Johnson being a young gaffer as well just seems to fit in with the outlook that Dreyfus has for the club.

He will be open to sports technology etc, he will be open to alternate ideas, he’s experienced but still growing as a manager.

The appointment always looked a good one, but there’s more and more sense being seen in it as he grows into the role.

Be nice to think we could have a manager that lasts a few years, get the club right back on his feet.

Its so positive on and off the park right now, and it’s fantastic.

A Wembley win wouldn’t half add to that momentum.

I liked the appointment of LJ from day 1 and everything i've seen and heard from him since underscores that belief. He is young, bright and very articulate. I think we are in very good hands. Never felt this comfortable about all things SAFC for many many years.

I'm quite sure that Shankly modelled his Liverpool teams from when he played in the 1937 Cup final against us,now that was the Sunderland way.

Lee Johnson every night for me
 
I was searching for something unrelated on here earlier today and came across a random thread about Johnson on the Bristol City forum. A few of them weren't happy with him but also one of them posted the facts which were that while he was there every year he improved their league position and during his time they made a profit. Sounds good to me.

I got the impression there was some bad historical feeling towards his dad which they were counting against him.

He's also only 39. You can't knock a manager of that age too much because they've barely hung up their boots.

The important bit is Hume's injury from the Wigan match was minor - three weeks or thereabouts - the "grade 3 tear" occurred on the training pitch.

Not sure how much credit POMO deserves for any players performance. I see Jack diamond running around the pitch with alligator arms, and I'm reminded of the scene in 'Chariots of Fire" when the old coach Mussabini declares, "Mr Abrahams, I can find you two more yards."
 
I seem to recall that when Parky finally got the bullet and we were all speculating who was next - one of either Smug or Prehab said that somebody was being lined up who "may not sound inspiring but would make perfect sense when all of the other pieces dropped in to place".

I didn't understand it at the time but it makes complete sense now. LJ is perfect for what KLD wants to do, we still have a long way to go as we do still tend to have 20-30 minute spells in games when we are not really at it but what he has achieved with essentially the same squad as Parky had is remarkable. As has been said I think that shipping Graham and Grigg out helped that enormously.

He is already creating a DNA of the type of player who thrives at our club - long may it continue and I can't wait to get back in the ground next season.

I think getting rid of Grigg took some balls to be honest. He is a player with a proven track record in this league who hadn't done it here. Many a manager would have kept him around to give him a run out here and there see if they could get him firing again.

To come in am quickly see that despite his past his attitude wasn't right to ever get going here and ship him out shows he is a good judge if character and wants the right attitude about the club.

Also think what this means about mcgeady and Parkinson pushing him out for bad attitude. Now our best player?
