Do you lay blame at Johnson's door for his injury being worsened? Can't work it out. Surely a manager is told by Physio etc. how hard to work a player coming back from injury.

Also - what is POMO? Seen it on here a few times but have no idea what it means as I though it was post modern!

It comes from the work of Wng Cmdr Charles Reep and Charles Hughes, who was director of coaching for the FA for many years. It was based on statistical analysis. Reep suggested that most goals were scored from a string of only 3 passes. The idea was to get the ball into the Position Of Maximum Opportunity as quickly as possible. It was their work that heavily influenced the 'long ball game' favoured by managers like Dave Bassett, Egil Olsen and, notably, John Beck. Johnson's dad was at Cambridge Utd under Beck and Johnson has said that he used to listen to Beck talk about football. This is presumably where he picked up the term. Fortunately for us, he hasn't followed Beck in other ways.
