Don't worry, your post was well reasoned, whether people agree with it or not, you needn't be concerned - particularly as the user who called you an idiot, Redstripe, seemed to be on a one man mission to raise Le Tiss' pedestal even higher.
Ditto. Even if he doesn't quite see things the same way as Nicola, I have long been saying that they need to find a meeting of minds. Hopefully, the same invitation will eventually go to Lawrie. This club will really be better if it is together as one. Oops, did I reopen an old and beloved cliche with the last few words..?
Matt le tiss knows as much about running a business as I know about 18th century French literature. He's perfectly entitled to give his views on the club and I'm perfectly entitled to wish he'd shut the fcuk up.
No he can't for the very reason he is not like everyone else. Matthew has come out very badly in this whole affair and has lost the repect of many Saints fans. He has a lot of work to do to rebuild my faith in his ability to talk objectively about our club.
Hopefully they can clear the air and put past ghosts to rest. Both Cortese and Le Tissier have a passion for Southampton, so if they can start singing from the same song sheet it can only be good for the club.
Thanks for not biting and turning this into a shouting match. There is nothing wrong with your points you have made, all are good and valid and well presented......
A few years ago Man Utd did a kind of fans survey to establish the greatest ever United player. Anyone of a certain age (i.e.old) could answer this almost without thinking - George Best. Simple as he is probably the greatest player ever produced in the UK, and some of us fortunate enough to see him would be tempted to argue he is the greatest of all time. When the survey was published Erica Cantona came out number one. Somehow, the same generation of Saints fans have decided that Matt Le Tissier is the greatest player in our history and whatever he wants he should have. Presumably these are fans who didn't see a young Mick Channon rip defences apart; they haven't delighted in seeing Terry Paine twist defenders inside out before placing the ball perfectly on the head of the number 9; they haven't stood behind the goal as another Ron Davies header almost burst the net. All three of these served the club brilliantly and were responsible for promotion and/or keeping us up when things looked against us. Le Tissier was a delightful player, and has shown himself to be a boor post playing. Getting him to shut up on Sky would be good, but frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn. Cortese is a clever business man who clearly doesn't play the media's game. They hate him. Fine, he's not courting popularity he's running a business and running it well. He probably isn't someone I'd want to share a decent bottle of red with, but so what? His actions have enabled me to continue to support my club, and see them rise from obscurity to being a Premier League club again. His vision is that we should be bigger and better. What's there to disagree with?
I just hope that they can agree to be civil to each other in public. What Tiss has to realise is that he is the loser here...it doesn't matter to Cortese more than having an annoying gnat buzzing round your ear. Matt believes that Cortese cares nothing about the past (i.e. about Matt and other ex-players), whereas I think Nicola just cares more about Saints future. Isn't Matt glad that our beloved team is back in the PL...we all know he loves the club with his constant references to 'us' on TV, but he has to realise that someone else owns it now. He should remember the adage: Don't think what can Saints do for me, what can I do for Saints.
Yeah, it's a golden opportunity for Matt to bury the hatchet without losing face, so I hope he takes it. Hopefully anything that has to be said can be settled in private, that means the rest of the planet doesn't need to read about it on twitter.
We shall see! Let's just keep hoping this will at worst be the end of it, even if there's not a perceivably positive "working together" resolution.
NC has a bit of a track record at clearing the air, just look at Jason Puncheon. Just over a year ago everyone thought he was on his way out, then a session with Nicola resolved all the issues and he's been one of the stars of the show ever since, and that was after Punch had posted a few derogatory things on Twitter. Hopefully this meeting will follow similar lines and at least let NC and MLT come to an agreement about what the issues are and how they can put them behind them.
