OK then, seeing that this subject has all the hallmarks of entente cordiale about it, let's start with Welsh bands........<laugh> :emoticon-0105-wink:

I'll go first with a more mature choice raher than the more recent - Badfinger.
The Alarm (Spirit of '76 is still one awesome track)
Phil Campbell & the Bastard Sons - Have seen them 4 times and due to go again, (if it's on) at the Thekla in Bristol in November.

Tom Jones - the coal miners son
Bonnie Tyler - I loved her old stuff like Heartache and Lost in France
.... and the Manics of course - but didn’t they release a song about ‘Beating the English’? If that was an English band releasing a song about beating Welsh, Scots or Irish I expect it would have been banned amid huge controversy.
Isn’t Duffy Welsh? And then there’s Cerys Matthews.
You could also add the entire population of Welsh Rugby fans - their singing is always superb - it must be in their blood

What's with all this Canadian and Aussie thing? I believe several members of Heart were Canadian born but moved to L.A to further their career and did you forget Beebs? My favourite band from down under were Little River Band who were fortunate to have 2 of the best male singers in Glenn Shorrock and John Farnham (your'e the voice). Didn't Garrat from Midnight Oil become a politician? For the older amongst us don't forget Paul Anka.

I just noticed Alannah Miles mentioned and she was brilliant in live performance until she went off the rails and started spitting at the audience and being pissed - what a waste. Perhaps she needed a jagged little pill.:1980_boogie_down:

Jagged little pill was Alanis Morissette.

Ler's go in a different direction, we've done Canada, how about Australia, here are some names of fame ~
AC/DC
INXS
Kylie Minouge
Bee Gees
Olivia Newton John
Nick Cave
Seekers

Picked at random, any favourites?
Although BASED in Oz, weren’t the Young brothers actually Scottish? And Johnson is a Geordie isn’t he?
Not sure about Bon Scott - perhaps he was Aussie - but sadly he passed on, so are AC/DC actually technically an Aussie band or British? (Nitpicking I know!!)

Another oldie but goodie - Man
Stereophonics
Amen Corner
Super Furry Animals
Goldie Looking Chain - Newport's only contribution to music - if you can call it that :steam:

The Young Brothers were born in Glasgow, Bon Scott was Australian by birth, Brian Johnson was born just outside Newcastle upon Tyne and
Phil Rudd (the original drummer 1975-1983 and again later for another spell) is also Australian.

Lets us really broaden it out if you wish and include West Country bands, I'll give you the greatest ones of all..
Adge Cutler and the Wurzels
Portishead
Massive Attack
Johnny Carr and the Cadillacs........

XTC from Swindon. I often bump into Andy Partridge (pre COVID) in my local Spanish Tapas bar and we exchange pleasantries.
Another band which plays often in Swindon but was actually formed in Torquay is Wishbone Ash.
There’s Billie Piper - a better actress than singer!
Gilbert O Sullivan - I drink with his brother-in-law.
Although the BAND was formed in Birmingham, Justin Hayward - the lead singer and songwriter from the Moody Blues, was born in - and still lives in Swindon.

One of my old Managers was in a 1960s group called Ian & The Zodiacs where he was the drummer. The released a few records too.
They were from Liverpool and toured England and Hamburg in Germany at the same time as the Beatles.

Bon Scott was born in Forfar, moved to Oz when he was 6

Feeder was classed as a Newport band, but Grant is from Chepstow on Pwllmeyric hill. I know his cousins but Grant went to school in Monmouth. We probably knew each other as there is only 2 years apart and I lived in Mathern the next village to his and my paper round was in his location.

Wasn’t that peado’s band from Newport?
