Forgot about this Canadian - probably my favourite track but she’s more famous for Black Velvet Alannah Myles:
Ler's go in a different direction, we've done Canada, how about Australia, here are some names of fame ~ AC/DC INXS Kylie Minouge Bee Gees Olivia Newton John Nick Cave Seekers Picked at random, any favourites?
Crowded House, Neil Finn was playing with Fleetwood Mac when I saw them. He done Don't Dream it’s over, during the gig. Midnight Oil, Beds are Burning is a fantastic song. INXS were on their way to super stardom IMO
Men at Work Frank Ifield - born in Coventry of Australian parents and went to Oz when still a boy Barry Humphries/Dame Edna Everage Dani Minogue
Do you know I absolutely love the BEE GEES, the Seekers (Judith Durham) but I was a youngster. That's the beauty of music you can take it serious, just enjoy it or boil an egg (soft boiled for me) and just look at the stars.
What's with all this Canadian and Aussie thing? I believe several members of Heart were Canadian born but moved to L.A to further their career and did you forget Beebs? My favourite band from down under were Little River Band who were fortunate to have 2 of the best male singers in Glenn Shorrock and John Farnham (your'e the voice). Didn't Garrat from Midnight Oil become a politician? For the older amongst us don't forget Paul Anka. I just noticed Alannah Miles mentioned and she was brilliant in live performance until she went off the rails and started spitting at the audience and being pissed - what a waste. Perhaps she needed a jagged little pill.
Dare one raise the fact that Rolf Harris is Australian, made pop records, and had a Number 1 hit with 2 Little Boys Nuff said
OK then, seeing that this subject has all the hallmarks of entente cordiale about it, let's start with Welsh bands........ I'll go first with a more mature choice raher than the more recent - Badfinger.
From what I've briefly read of Heart the girls father was in the military and they moved around quite a bit. The sisters were born in different cities for instance, and then the family relocated again to Seattle. Ann Wilson then fell in love with a draft dodger during the Vietnam war and she followed him over the border to Vancouver, Nancy and the other band members followed, and they started touring Canada extensively, hence a lot of people (including me) believing that they are Canadian. Peter Garrett from Midnight Oil certainly did become a politician and their album Diesel & Dust is still one that I play a lot. The Little River Band were also one of my favourites (along the lines of Bread) and are also Australian.
