I recently put together 32gb of my music onto an SD card and have just let it loose onto my cars infotainment system and allowed it to play, without selecting anything specific. What have I learned so far? 1. It doesn't get a lot better than Van Morrison when it comes to driving music. 2. Bob Dylan's self portrait is a better album than most people give it credit for. 3. The Who sell out is still a great, funny and entertaining album. 4. Terry Callier is very calming. 5. Gil Scott Heron's lyrics can rip your heart out. 6. And Peter Green is still the best guitarist to walk this planet.
I love the Who, but I went to see them at Ashton Gate a few years back and really didn’t enjoy it. It was ‘flat’ somehow (in an atmospheric, not musical sense). I came away really disappointed.
I wouldn't bother watching bands from that era now I would only be disappointed. I watched the Who on a preview tour for Who's next at the Bath pavilion and they were superb. I watched the Stones in 1971 and thought that were crap.
I have watched the complete series of Laurel Canyon and thoroughly enjoyed it, brought back some great memories of Buffalo Springfield, C, S, N & Y, The Byrds (especially Gram Parsons), Flying Burrito brothers, Joni Mitchell, Poco, Little Feat, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt and of course the Eagles. There was also on the same channel a good documentary about the Hollies. Not related but the other night I went through my external hard drive of music to look for something different to listen to and settled on Jack Bruce and his album songs for a tailor from 1969, I had forgotten what a great album that was, it turned out to be a great choice. Also not related in Weymouth there is a 'Mod' shop called rude not to...... sells all kinds of stuff that people of a certain age will remember it is a brilliant shop. https://www.rudenotto.net Whilst I was in there the owner told me about a dub album by a Bristolian who goes under the name of Big Chip, the album titles are all about areas of Bristol, I love dub music and this album is really good.
Yep me too, me and my missus kept saying to each other, "I had this" took me right back, great memories.
Again nothing to do with Laurel Canyon but I love watching these Finnish nutters performing they just make me smile. This was 1993 at the MTV awards with the Red Army Choir.
Just watched David Crosby 'remember my name" documentary, I suspect if you liked Laurel canyon you will like this as well, a proper warts and all documentary.
