I think the UK is going to have the biggest anchor tied round its neck over the next 2 -3 years.............. just 2 comments from his latest Q & A

the Guardian mentions that one of the Labour government’s first acts was to put a pause on the previous Conservative government’s plans to build 40 new hospitals by 2030.
Starmer is asked whether this is the “damaging short-term thinking” the report talks about.

He is also questioned whether he is committed to building the hospitals.

The PM explains that the pause is to review the plan, rather than not building them. He says that the government is still committed to building the hospitals with a more realistic plan.
For context: The pledge to build and fund 40 new hospitals over 10 years was in Boris Johnson's 2019 Conservative election manifesto. There's been there ongoing controversy about exactly what counts as a "new hospital".

When will the public start to see changes in the NHS, PM ............

Since the government's plan is a 10-year one, does that mean people will still sit waiting in A&Es for another decade, a journalist from the Mirror asks.
When will the public start to see a difference, they push.
Starmer says A&E is an example of where more technology is needed. People are usually waiting a very long time for test results because the technology isn't quick enough, he says,
Some things can be changed more quickly, he says. While the plan is for 10 years, we've got to show change along the way, he ad
    ds.

    So in opposition
he questions "where are the 40 new hospitals" [ and there are a number of these already in the pipeline and some sorted like Swindon ] BUT HE PUTS IT ON HOLD so that he is not committed to fulfilling the . GOV'S PLEDGE
In opposition slated waiting times [ as we ALL know exasperated by Covid then union actions to bleed the funding by wanting exorbitant wage rises and strikes, bit of a pattern developing now isnt there** ] now intimating will take 10 years or more!

** uses the unions to hinder the operation of the NHS , ........... SEE HOW DOCTORS ONE DAY AMBULANCE another Radiographers another then nurses another prolonged the agony for patients ...BUT BLAMED THE THE "14 YEARS" now happy to Blame the pensioners for the black hole...

sort of a .GOV that gets well paid well heated well fed [ parliament has subsidised food/drink!? ] BUT PICKS ON THE NEEDY AND VULNERABLE ..........THE ILL AND THE OLD!

everyday we see the continuation of what he was like as oppo leader a headless chicken driven by a list of static sayings .... they havent changed although one or 2 are used less ...."like my mum and dad" it backs up the picture we have of a person who has plans in head, in his head only, but the wrong ones to fit into the blank spaces that he questioned about ...like.... "how are you going to fund it"

big Q from PMQ's ...." when are you going to release the report on the impact statement" asked about whether the reported 3850 deaths attributable to his decision to stop winter payment and will he accept responsibility .. answer was we are taking this decision to stabilise the economy blah blah .. but no comment on the potential mortalities it will cause indeed refusing to say or publish the impact statement ..... coward and a liar !

    LORD Darzi .
you could be forgiven for feeling a sense of deja-vu about such ideas - these are all things that have been talked about for the past 20 years.
In fact, Lord Darzi produced a report recommending just this in 2007, when he was working for the Blair government.

WELL WELL WELL ... The plot thickens .. no wonder Kamikaze wants a cross party concensus on sorting the national health service then.
They had 3 years to do something and had allowed the decay to fester into not fit for purpose / " the NHS is broken" for 11-12 years + 3 years to the 2010 GE , when the the income from oil /gas revenue was at its peak and we had £trn's ? in gold!
Allowing for "getting the country back on its feet [ austerity ended in 2018/19 ] and the commencement which has brought a number of new updates to hospitals / builds a increase of staff .............

    in.

please log in to view this image

SO SINCE 2019 BORIS ... Staffing levels are up 23% but only a small increase 3% of patients starting treatment!
[ difficult to draw a conclusion as why only 3% of patients with an increase of staff UNLESS the staffing levels needed to be trained so a drag on ability to match ?]

EVERYDAY THE TRUTH IS RISING! ... Good old Kamikaze Hindsight has fallen/ falling to karma... What are we now ? almost 70 days in and still his answer is to every question is "blame is on the previous .GOV" .. no straight answer, in fact more timesthan not "NO ANSWER AT ALL" just blame it all on 14 years of tory rule..... well OBR comments aside .. as basically just guesstimates on what they think and is a guide to which they sometimes come close, but do encourage .GOV's to take a breath!.... The ECONOMY doesnt seem to be that broken and was in a very good state of healing....

Starmer slammed over 'unforgivable' failure to complete assessment of winter fuel axe
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1947902/keir-starmer-labour-winter-fuel-payment
Keir Starmer makes shocking confession over decision to cut Winter Fuel Payments

Pensioners and campaigners have blasted Labour for its failure to consider the impact of scrapping winter fuel payments for vulnerable pensioners.
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1947896/keir-starmer-winter-fuel-payments-pensioners-labour

Absolute liar, questioned in parliament several times, could not reply with an honest answer,

Starmer and his motley crooked bunch have made this decision with no thoughts or compassion for the thousands that could die through their treachery and chicanery, it was their choice and they will never be forgiven.

Surely Covid and the shutdown of virtually the entire country for several lockdowns would have been a contributing factor in only 3% ?

So Labour in opposition make an impact assessment in 2017 saying 3,700 pensioners could perish without a winter fuel payment.
In government they recklessly don't bother or couldn't care.

Think we need Ashton to explain.

actually reading your comment, a rethink on the why? would fit the bill, during covid only emergency operations were carried out along side a very small % of "in need" operations that could be fitted in. after my operation in 2019, my 6 month / 12 month check ups and odd bits of physio in the year 2020 month' 3 -9 were cancelled. I think the waiting lists rocketed [ doubled in the period mar/2020 to oct 2020 and continued to rise steeply until mid 2021. Top this out with labour unions calling the series of of inter twining departs that caused a major disruption for almost a year, X days no nurses so no op's X days no doc's so no ops X days no anbulance crews X days no radiographers so no ops X days no Junior docs so no ops ........... loss of 10's 000 appointments Labour not in power but un ion actions backed on the picket lines by labour MP's picked on the weak and needy

It ALL MAKES SENSE now .if Kamikaze picks on the strongest sections to help pay they just move abroad alter their financial structure and what little!!!??? they paid in is lost as well SO PICK ON THE WEAKEST............... AND SHOW COMPASSION BY ENCOURAGING B OAT PEOPLE THAT COSTS £BN'S PER ANNUM

He cant, because the explanation is far from simple ......

...Labour screwed up pre 2010 ............ then Labour used the period 2010 2024 to blame the tory .GOV for the mess, [and still has been ] ........ Labour helped by the unions [ the puppet masters ] by holding strike action to totally cause chaos within the NHS and make the needy patients suffer ..

I assume you’re aware I’m not a labour spokesperson, why would you expect me to explain all of of their decisions, especially one that I disagree with.

I actually agree partially with you on this one, and have said so on multiple occasions. I do agree the payment shouldn’t be universal, but they should have completed an assessment and ensured the less well off don’t lose it.

obviously with the 2 laugh's you dont have an answer so try and brush off with a throwaway comment!
I have only precis an article or 2 that say exactly what is printed so nothing to do with medication.

to see if it helps:- ..................
Lord Darzi in 2007 published a report the same or very similar to the recent one. Referencing that in the previous period 10 years into Labour term the NHS WAS SIMILAR TO AND NEEDED HELP.
For 3 years Labour did nothing other than Bliar jumping ship and leaving Brown in charge,,, losing election ... and leaving a black hole many times bigger than the £13bn [ spouted as £22bn ]

from 2010 to 2019 Tories had hands tied because of the 2010 Black hole and AUSTERITY required toward public spending

2019 declaration of the austerity programme was ended and NHS was amongst the biggest benefactors

    2020 COVID ........... A £Trn unseen consequence
2022 energy crisis due to Putrid invading UKR ANOTHER dent of £Bn's........
2023 numerous hospital /NHS strikes supported byLabour MP's their puppetmasters!
2024 debts down.. inflation down ... interest rate down ...... economy and GDP in the black and steadily rising first major hospital improvements inaugerated Police up [ now converted by .gov to 2 tier policing ] Nurses up ..... NHS staff up ... doctors up ..... although strike action affected some waiting lists down
    £ is strong
    Trade is strong

there you go the simple KISS way to present it I suppose!
