Just gonna say, I don't agree with the army as a whole whatsoever, don't wanna get into an argument about it, but I still think anyone who joins and fights is a million times braver than me because I would never do it. Don't really have anything to contribute but never mind.

I could never have put up with the disipline and taking orders verbatim.

I admire those who do and I have several friends in the forces. Far braver than I am.

I have quite a few friends that have been or are in the Army. When they were younger they were wee gabshites and lacked direction, the army taught them discipline, respect and structure. To be honest made them better people,

Saying that my wee american cousin is training for the Navy Seals and the ****in **** they go through is unreal. I've heard all before about them breaking a man down to build him back up, but he has went through 1 training season already and the things he described to me were ****in hectic.

I seriously couldn't put my body through that.

I fully support the armed forces and the job that they do but I would think long and hard about what you are doing. It's no boys club out in the desert, it's tough work and takes it takes it's toll mentally and physically.

I have to say, I could never do it. I care to much for my family and love ones and for me to leave my woman to hold the fort for months on end would be too much of an ask for me.

I'm friends with an American chap who was invalided out of the Rangers after a shrapnel wound in Iraq. He trained as a sniper.

Basic training sounds like hell on earth and then they specialise so the training gets harder.

As I said. Full respect for what they do and the dangers they accept as a cost of living.

My wee cuz said he went through hell. At 1 point of their training they were out in rafts when the SEALS cam up out of the water, turned their rafts over and "attacked" them. He loved it, but said there were so many people that broke down it was unreal.

I still wind him up by saying the SEALS have nothing on the SAS. Ha ha.

    We have to.

He still rates the SAS as better than the SEALs and he's an Alabama boy. He also agreed that the British forces were better at 'hearts and minds' compared to the US forces who just waded in and did waht they wanted.

    What photo?

I agree. I watched a program on the Waco massacre and it was weird as ****. The folk that survived it saying about them playing Nancy Sinatra 'These boots were made for walkin' and then slowing down heavy metal to force them out. It then cut to the negoitiatators that said the FEDs went totally against their word. They knew a calm and reslote way was to be found but the FBI got so fed up they just sent in the troops.

Saying that the guy David Keresh, that they saw as the 2nd coming was a nutjob (IMO) masking christianity for his own ****ed up beliefs. He had convinced 16 year olds to have his children, then he convinced all his followers to give their wives up to him.

    Wild!

Being a soldier means putting your life in the hands of politicians and career officers.

No thx. If you are pished off with the 9-5 lark as said retrain, get a new career, you don't have ot join the army to get fit and have a trade. If you have the will you have the will, if you don't noone is gonna make you want to.

What's a "career officer" and why is putting your life in their hands so dangerous?

It isn't the Crimean War you know.

Hitler stated once he'd have succeded if he had 100 Irish men. His plan was to give them a bottle of whiskey and a hurley and let them beat the **** out of everyone in their way <ok>

as for your picture st. I can clearly see the adaptiveness of that soldier, he ran out of bullets so made a bow and arrow ****ing genius <ok>

Some races just make for tougher fighters I suppose. The English/British have always punched above their weight throughout history, often defeating much bigger forces eg Agincourt, the Armada, Trafalgar, Napoleon, Rorke's Drift, the Battle of Britain etc. The Scots were always a tough nut to crack too despite their relative lack of resources.
