Sorry I meant 3 season experience was the absolute minimum.
...But would he be able to follow this on and be a WDC contender at Ferrari on a long term team rebuilding basis? Would Button be able to perform better than Massa? Would he be able to beat Alonso?
Basically I cant see this happen even though I personnally wouldnt mind seeing a brit in the Ferrari as they do get a bit of bashing from the McLaren bias press.
Button is only 31, one year older than Alonso, F1 drivers can still drive until they about 40ish so it is conceivable that Button could have about 9 season still in F1.
No I don't mean that. It's totally relevant to link to it on this thread, I just don't think Benson is on the ball. From all the other reports on Button and Ferrari it seems clear to me that they're thinking about 2013. Benson is effectively reporting that McLaren are about to take up Button's option for 2012, as is their prerogative. That is irrelevant to Ferrari courting him for 2013 onwards. Benson doesn't actually mention anything about extending Button's contract to 2013 and beyond. That was in the YallaF1.com link I posted earlier. When Benson mentions that "an extension is effectively inevitable," he means into 2012. As I understand it, McLaren is potentially going to offer Button a pay increase and a multi-year contract from 2012 onwards (thus negating any option they have on him) but Benson doesn't seem to realise this.I'm not quite sure I've understood you there Genji, so you may have to clarify for me. Are you saying the article isn't worth mentioning on this thread? The article reports that McLaren are likely to not only take up their option on Button for 2012, but also to reinforce their intentions by augmenting it with a new deal to keep him there for longer. Obviously, this would pretty much end any approach by Ferrari.
Seeings as the article's subject is Button, as is the topic of this thread, I thought it worth bringing up. Apologies if you thought it belongs in a separate thread.
Autosport said:Any likely improvement in the contract that Button gets as part of a fresh deal would likely be done in exchange for a lengthier deal - so there is a chance that he could commit his future at McLaren well beyond the end of 2012.
I suppose you could have posted it on the BBC Fail thread, though.![]()
And that's something every one of us would do well to remember. You dont get points for quali!

A fairly average article by JA standards but I was surprised to se him run a poll at the end. I have no idea how I'd answer. It's 50/50.James Allen's thoughts on the matter.

He's got a good thing going on at McLaren, so why ruin it?
Money talks maybe ? , its quite luring to go to the red team.
To retire from F1 as an ex-WDC having driven for both McLaren and Ferrari, and in equal machinery against Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso? Regardless of his career statistics, what an absolute buzz. He's totally living the dream. He's got a good thing going on at McLaren, so why ruin it?

McLaren might look the better bet for a second WDC now, but who knows what Ferrari's massive reorganisation will bring in 2012 or 2013?
Well this is the 11th season for Jenson Button and ussually that marks the downward curve of an F1 driver. Would Ferrari want to look for an old hand or a fresh new tallent like they did with Massa?
I didnt mean to offend anyone as Im not pointing out Button is not good enough. I think Button is actually at the top of his game at the moment. Also Im happy you want to debate F1 with me. I dont feel you are picking on me![]()
