So many people with short memories, Vinagre was absolutely ****e defensively. He couldn’t defend a cobbled together wooden fort from thousands of spear wielding African warriors, let alone the left side of a football pitch.

He played 536 out of the 1440 minutes he was in the squad and available for, including getting hooked at half time twice, because he was so sloppy at the back.

It’s not even a controversial thing to say, until today it was unanimously agreed on this board that he was weak defensively and that was why Rosey would rather play Greaves or Coyle there as Vinagre couldn’t be trusted defensively.

Yep and i told everyone that even before he put the shirt on for the first game.

................ People used to say Robertson couldn't defend which was bollocks even before he improved at Liverpool....
TBF...Liverpool haven't done much defending over the past five years, and neither have Man Cieth....Don't need to. But they still purchase decent defensive players. That's a bit weird.

Robertson wasn't any more than an OK defender when he was here, it was the rest of his game which raised him to the level that Liverpool wanted. Even so, Klopp kept him out of starting regularly for quite a long time while he improved the defensive side of his game.

Madrid want to send Guler out on loan. We need a right winger…

Despite the latest reports Turkish-Football understands that Güler does not want to leave on loan and is intent on staying and fighting for his place in the team. The Turkish international is happy in Madrid and looking forward to getting back to regular playing time after recovering from a lengthy injury.

If the £4.5m fee is true, and it does end up happening, would that be the most we've ever spent on a defender? I can't think of a higher fee.

Well I didn't say that earlier, but that is 100% my opinion. And I strongly suspect it's your opinion of yourself too.

That’s great. I was still right all along, as were others who also didn’t have coaching badges.

Wasn't Mick Dawson £5m?

But other than him yeah, all the best defenders we’ve had have been £2-3m. Davies, Elmo, Robbo, Maguire were all in that price bracket. Chester even cheaper at £300k, you don’t get that anymore. Big clubs want £500m for their academy cast offs these days.

I have no recollection of the Dawson fee, which made me think it must've been small. Wikipedia says it was believed to be £3.5m.

Yep, Dawson and Odubajo our most expensive defenders at £3.5m each. Which is crazy really, given we spent £2.5m on Anthony Gardner in 2008. Inflation on defenders clearly not as much as attackers…
