Wages and fees make no difference when it comes to FFP calc. It's just what your overall loss is, less any deductions e.g. training ground, Academy, women's team.

It is, but the loss that you're limited to isn't specifically the loss on your accounts, it's after deductions. It's why all these FFP cases aren't as simple as saying "We added up your last three losses and you're over" Everton were arguing interest they paid on a loan was a loan for their stadium so shouldn't be counted for FFP, but it was found the loan was actually used for paying player wages etc. so did need to be counted. It all gets confusing.
As far as fees v wages, if you sign a player for 10m on a 5 year deal, 2m a year gets counted as an expense, plus whatever wages you pay the player. So say you pay him 19,230 a week (I picked because that comes to a nice round 1m a year), you basically have 3m of cost associated with that player each year.
No I understand that Syd. I just thought we'd 'overspent" on wages more than on fees. So if we reduced wages it was a good thing.
Surely the transfer fee would have to go against FFP in exactly the way it’s structured. So if more of/the whole fee is paid up front that would all come out of that initial year?

It's why all these FFP investigations take as long as they do, it can be really complex to work out.
