You're probably right that it is primarily about him playing (it'd be a bit daft to pay someone a player's wage otherwise) but I do think there's some logic to the idea that Delap might improve on the weakest part of his game by training with Sharp every day and watching how he gets himself into scoring positions and beats the keeper. Delap has all the raw ingredients to his game but just lacks the guile in the box that Sharp has an abundance of.
I guess so, I just think Delap doesn’t get in those areas because he’s so involved in our build up. He drifts wide, drops deep, all the things he does excellently. I think we need to work on our delivery more than his positioning. Coyle still our best crosser, no one looks close. Don’t think we get enough balls into the box for a Sharp type to be effective at this stage. But he will learn a lot from Sharp you’d hope. Just think our style doesn’t suit poachers.

Agree. That's pretty much the main thing behind my regular earlier comments about our attacking phases being poor.
That said, there seemed to be a marked improvement last Saturday. Hopefully a corner has been turned.
I also said quite recently that one thing we lack is an attacker who is an true goalscorer. Looks like we have got one for 5 months, but I'm really surprised it's Sharp. A few years too late. Or maybe it is with a view to a coaching role. Anyone know if he's done the necessary badges?

If the reports are right and that Billy Sharp was released and became a free agent, then surely he can play now?

He was released by sheff Utd in August and he signed a short term deal at LA in MLS. He's still contracted to them until Jan 1st.

He doesn't become a free agent until Jan 1st.

****ing hell lads, it’s not Billy Sharp. What planet are you on! It’s 2023 ffs

edit: Just seen it confirmed now, wow what a ridiculous signing that is, he’s only 2 years younger than Rosey :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Billy Sharp would be a cracking signing don’t care what anyone says. Absolutely ideal off the bench, goalscorer all the way.
2 ****ing goals and 1 assist in 38 appearances for Sheff Utd last season.

and how the **** does Billy Sharp fit into LR's style of pressing and chasing down the opposition?
Personally I'd rather bring Oscar back.

Very odd signing. Cheap and might chip in with a couple of goals for the last 15 mins of games when chasing though. I don't hate it.

Óscar scored 13 goals in fewer games than Sharp did last season but was loaned out because he doesn’t fit into Rosenior’s style. To the sign Sharp, who also doesn’t suit Rosenior’s style of play, is hilarious.

Not in fewer minutes he didn't. Got 6 assists too, which Oscar never contributed.
We have 18 goals in 22 from our main starting forwards this season. Clearly signing sharp is about adding championship experience, bringing on the youngsters and a different threat late in games.

But of course, you won't be interested in the rationale.
