It's definitely an interesting one, as far as I'm aware keepers are allowed (somewhat) to use there knees to "protect" themselves and arms naturally go in that position(s) to claim the ball....should this extend to being able to do it out the box, I'm not sure. I have asked 2 PREM refs and a linesman ( for what it's worth ) for their view, all said it's not a faul on the keeper in any way shape or form. But all also had a different views on if it was foul on Connolly. Which to me says it could be given either way....

Pardon? Either way? I think you said 2 prem refs and a lino did not think it was a foul on the keeper. How could it have been given either way?

Thank god they don't panic like the fanbase. There's only tomorrow night's game remaining this month and then Philogene is back, worst case scenario Seri and Adama are back Feb 11th but a decent chance Adama is back for Millwall and we'll sign a couple at least.
I cant see Philogene being rushed back starting immediately, more likely some 30 minutes before he's risked starting.

I agree with most things you say on here HT:

I agree that Rosenior's inexperience is costing us.

I agree that not replacing Oscar was a big mistake which left us very vulnerable to the inevitable injuries to forward players.

I agree that people on here look at our keeper's faults without appreciating their strengths.

I agree that Connolly is as soft as ****.

However, we do seem to have a different interpretation of what constitutes common assault.

I hope that you never become a magistrate.

I appreciate my view on it may not match others, but to call it/compare it to common assault is way over the top and needlessly dramatic. He's not walked up to him on the street and punched him etc, it's 2 players going for a ball that unfortunately for us their keeper got to first and won, it's obviously up for debate if it was won fairly. But common assault...... Just no

Once scored two near post headers from corners .Next time I went for one keeper hit me in the kidneys both knees . Couldn’t walk back to my car got taken to infirmary then spent a week in Sutton bleeding from my kidney. Damaged the nerves in an area the size of my hand which took a couple of years to repair ! Took me about a month to actually play again - so if he’d hit the short arse lower what’s the verdict ? It was dangerous . Remember the silly sending off at Millwall the other year when our forwrd had no idea the sender was coming for the ball and he caught the blokes head - how do you balance the two decisions?

My view is the same, what happened to you and any injury is extremely unfortunate. But I've never walked onto a pitch not being prepared to put myself in a position where I may come off injured, in pain or anything like that. Challenges like this will always bring a wild range of different views, always have and always will

Live at the game I thought it was just a coming together, but having seen the replays, it was definitely a yellow and it wouldn’t have been a surprise if he’d got a red.

Connolly only has eyes on the ball, but Gunn can see Connolly and the ball and he raises his knee and arm.

A defender clatters a player in the same way while going to head a ball and he’d definitely get a red.

I agree if it was a defender jumping like that it would, but I'm also not sure a defender would ever jump in the same way Gunn did, he's been taught to claim balls like that daily for many many years and will have just been his natural reaction to winning the ball in that situation.....again is that right or wrong? That's obviously up for debate

Some players play with niggles some won’t. Exactly the same as work. I have some employees who will have 2 weeks off for a cold and others who nearly feint and stay at work. Connolly is certainly the first one of these.

I only some of our players could feint they could fool a defender and set up a chance.

Connolly has been available for 27 games this season and of those 27 games he’s managed a full 90 minutes a total of 4 times.

Particularly after his 5 appearance half season last year, I don’t see what’s so knee jerk about questioning his durability. It’s a perfectly reasonable reservation.
Nothing wrong with questioning his durability, folk calling him soft as **** is a bit ott, no? Of those 27 games, how many did he start and not complete? Did he not complete due to injury or tactical substitution? How many was he subbed on and then completed? Need the full picture if some sort of assessment is to be made.

If you've got blokes who take a fortnight off with a cold they probably need a good talking to, if they nearly faint at work they probably need sending home!

Not nitpicking but ‘unfortunate ‘ had nothing to do with it , he didn’t like my success and decided to end it , if I’ve got my back to him and just flicking the header on to score he only has to wait and jump arms up I guess .
He used the knees up action because as you say it’s a ‘ standard’ goalie action . Refs need to know when and where it’s ok that’s all .
Not labouring it as we could be here all night , you know how it goes on here sometimes - anyway who are we getting ? LOL

Sorry, but on the replay Gunn sees Connolly coming, he is out of his box, he jumps like a keeper does expecting to get clattered knees up and trying to protect, but the key is, he is out of his box, different circumstances apply, I'm not against physical contact but that was reckless and endangered a player. If an outfield player does that it's a straight red, once he leaves his box Gunn becomes an outfield.player, simples for.me.

Sorry, didn't mean to play it down as I've no doubt that's a painful one, but it's unfortunate he connected to you in just the right place at the right time, slightly different impact point and it's not the outcome you got. I was a horrible bastard when playing and learnt that very quickly from training with the first team of a division 3 team at the age of 14. I had to learn to take it ( and give it ) or you didn't survive.

It's 100% a different game these days though, I understand that

If a keeper sees a player coming, why wouldn't he do that to protect himself expecting the worse... Connolly could have done the same but chose not to.

As for it being outside the box, it's an extremely grey area unfortunately when it comes to keepers

In at 11.30 last time. Was early at station so had something to eat before leaving which meant we weren’t delayed by grandson having to having something to eat before getting to pub. Beat TwoWrights to it.
True, but when I arrived I ordered two pints for myself. :emoticon-0125-mmm:
