Interesting! Thats not how i viewed it at all, the keeper lead with his knees & elbows is that allowed? It looked dangerous to me.
Keith Hackett did a good explanation on the 1904 pod. Reckoned because he was off the ground with his knees up, leading with his shoulder and outside the box then the same rules should apply as to outfield players. Reckoned it was reckless, endangered an opponent and a yellow card - and that's with the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't intentional, or it should be red. I tend to agree that if a centre half had done that it would be a booking at least. I agree that 30 years ago it probably wasn't getting given as a foul though. Just they have since tightened up the reckless aspect whether you're first to the ball or otherwise.
Thank god they don't panic like the fanbase. There's only tomorrow night's game remaining this month and then Philogene is back, worst case scenario Seri and Adama are back Feb 11th but a decent chance Adama is back for Millwall and we'll sign a couple at least.
In at 11.30 last time. Was early at station so had something to eat before leaving which meant we weren’t delayed by grandson having to having something to eat before getting to pub. Beat TwoWrights to it.
Some players play with niggles some won’t. Exactly the same as work. I have some employees who will have 2 weeks off for a cold and others who nearly feint and stay at work. Connolly is certainly the first one of these.
What was the outcome of yesterday, I thought it was a pivitol day on the transfer front…did anything happen ?
Hopefully Equatorial Guinea do a number on Ivory Coast and we should have Mika back after the next game.
Think it was pivotal in that they found out how long the injured players are out for so know what we need in the transfer window
Connolly's getting a bit of grief on here this week. I mean, concussion can be shrugged off, ignored can't it? Who knows what's wrong with his toe, I certainly don't except I know that toes are pretty important for running/kicking and if you can't do those things properly you're not much use on a football pitch. His shoulder? Who knows what the problem is? Give the bloke a break for heavens sake, unless you really know the details.
It's definitely an interesting one, as far as I'm aware keepers are allowed (somewhat) to use there knees to "protect" themselves and arms naturally go in that position(s) to claim the ball....should this extend to being able to do it out the box, I'm not sure. I have asked 2 PREM refs and a linesman ( for what it's worth ) for their view, all said it's not a faul on the keeper in any way shape or form. But all also had a different views on if it was foul on Connolly. Which to me says it could be given either way....
Live at the game I thought it was just a coming together, but having seen the replays, it was definitely a yellow and it wouldn’t have been a surprise if he’d got a red. Connolly only has eyes on the ball, but Gunn can see Connolly and the ball and he raises his knee and arm. A defender clatters a player in the same way while going to head a ball and he’d definitely get a red.
Think a few on here just need to chill out a bit. We play 1 more game before the end of the window. By the next time we play after tomorrow there’ll be at least 5 more players available. Tomorrow may well be painful and I’m almost certain there’ll be a lot of told you so’s here tomorrow but writing a window and season off as of yet is silly.
If the ref is behind Connolly Which I assume he was Then he probably doesn’t see the raised knee Just Connolly running full tilt at the keeper Keeper knows Connolly is there protects himself as keepers do and also has his eyes on the ball and heads it away
Instead of the usual nonsense when people say we only need 3-4 when we've generally got 5 on loan. Realistically, we'll be signing 8-10 players again this summer and I'd consider that to be the norm every year we're at this level
Connolly has been available for 27 games this season and of those 27 games he’s managed a full 90 minutes a total of 4 times. Particularly after his 5 appearance half season last year, I don’t see what’s so knee jerk about questioning his durability. It’s a perfectly reasonable reservation.
I agree with most things you say on here HT: I agree that Rosenior's inexperience is costing us. I agree that not replacing Oscar was a big mistake which left us very vulnerable to the inevitable injuries to forward players. I agree that people on here look at our keeper's faults without appreciating their strengths. I agree that Connolly is as soft as ****. However, we do seem to have a different interpretation of what constitutes common assault. I hope that you never become a magistrate.
