Fair points but I think the management team and most of the players would have been more confident with a couple of decent signings.Sad, but not unusual, to see people giving up on our season after a transfer window ...
... I won't but I'm not a quitter and nor do I believe are these players as they showed at Fulham without Stewart or Evans.
We're playing some great football, have just signed two strikers, are one win off the play offs and playing a team we can go above on Saturday. I'd have jumped at that in August tbh.
Can't wait for the next match.
reet, pleased that is over, kept out of the discussions simply because emotions run high and we all have opinions and people always fall out.
gutted that we are looking at a young lad to lead the line now, it seemed obvious to everyone that we really needed at least a couple of options and more so after stewarts injury, we possibly could/should have been looking at a little experience to slot in after evans injury so feeling a bit let down by the recruitment team as at times we looked to have a few options lined up but bit by bit they 'fell away'.
now, after saying that, i have absolutely no idea how many of those 'options' were actually true or likely...the club keeps things close now with very few leaks...i am pinning my thoughts on the fact that there were indeed a few options and the january window is usually quite slow and many do not think a 4 month loan is worth it, indeed you only have to look at how many 'options' that everton were meant to be looking at did not happen, many players contracts run until the summer also which might become a factor in decisions.
we can create enough, we have goalscorers around the pitch and we have 'done it before' so my toys are still in the pram here and i still have enough faith in the recruitment team that they did indeed try rather than some thinking they never planned or wanted a striker...i think they have proved they know their way around transfers, so young joffy is going to get more games than anyone thought and it could be exactly the chance he wanted and if he does suffer an injury the rest of the squad can do enough to see us safe.
'happy clapper' i am not but i do try to understand that if transfers were as easy as 'we want him- he signs' it would be an ideal job but there are so many things that change a lads heart even up to the last minute, so i am happy with the squad we have and agree it should have had a couple more additions to it but i wont be 'bed wetting' either.
before Stewarts injury i thought Gelhardt would be more clinical in front of goal than him so i remain hopefulNot a dig at you mate but I've been smiling at this all night.
Lots of people have begged for Simms to be signed so we weren't relying on the young kid ...
... despite Simms only being 22 and having played less games.
In fact there's argument that, as Simms is two years older, he should've played many mores games and have been more than just a bench player at Everton or behind Stewart at Sunderland. Gelhardt has scored in the PL and I doubt Leeds would let him go ...
... unlike Simms who I think will leave Everton in the summer.

You come across as a bit desperate here like?Kyle Lafferty is available. Considering we should be signing any big striker at any cost, lets get him in.

It could take day's, you need to chill.Must admit I'd have expected some sort of statement out from the club explaining. Just a short one from Speakman. Likely will do some sort of video interview tomorrow and then the podcast thing next week
I'm not disappointed and im sure there's a few others ok with the window.I'm staggered really. It's very disappointing.
But we still have about 999 reasons to be cheerful. And this team is my favourite team in my lifetime supporting Sunderland. So swings and roundabouts.
Next season we are going to have a real go. Our youngens will all have a year extra experience. Stewart will be back. And in theory our ability to spend should increase, as its likely we will sell one or two, and therefore we should be able to re-invest to supplement the good players we have.
Just got to enjoy the rest of this season as best as we can. It feels like a punt or a shot to nothing now. Which is a shame that we haven't really gone for it, but also not the end of the world.
Just remember - all of you - that NOBODY is pleased with this. We are all just differing levels of disappointed. And some of us are perhaps as disappointed as you but looking for positives rather than dwelling on the negative.
Night all
The angst seems to be all coming from you?Yeh absolutely, I think I said that in my post. I just meant that sometimes they have to deliver news people won't like, and that it not making anybody feel better shouldn't prevent it. There's a lot of angst flying about and whilst some sort of statement will antagonise some, it will actually at least bring some sort of resolution to others.
The lafferty one is definitely tongue in cheek, and a dig at someone (forget who) who said we should just sign anyoneWell well well. We go again. I'm happy with our business and we could never have forseen the Stewart injury, or managed to get a replacement in on time.
There's been some strange comments on here tonight, non other than epitomised by Southern, desperate for a solution...
