David Craig there on SSN who’s at EFL HQ, went through a bunch of stuff that’s still going on there at the EFL, last minute deals etc. Didn’t mention Sunderland unfortunately.
More convenient to ignore his presence if you want to hang onto a particular point. It's reminiscent of when we were 'lacking a specialist full back' and Hume was signed ... ... it was as if he didn't exist and he was dismissed as a development player we could forget about for a while.
Decent championship forward over the years. Big strong lad who can hold it up and good with his back to goal.
I have no doubt the club had a list of targets. Lets say 4 or 5 strikers they thought could slot in to our style of play. We can only get them if their club will let them go. We cant force them. If all 4 or 5 cant be done we shouldnt keep working our way down a list. There has to be a level of quality we wont go below. Too many times we have seen players come in and drag the overall quality of the side down, because they cant play at the pace we want, dont have the vision, etc etc. I suspect we will have been offered players over the last few days, that is part of how the window works. We will have said no to options because they simply arent up to our level. I think this is important - we cant just think any number 9 will do the job for us because we are in such a position now only the top X percentage of players will be. The better you are, the harder to get players good enough to play at your level.
Must admit I'd have expected some sort of statement out from the club explaining. Just a short one from Speakman. Likely will do some sort of video interview tomorrow and then the podcast thing next week
I'm surprised we haven't getting another striker in. The reach we seem to have nowadays I thought we would have a few options in our little black book. At least somebody half decent, willing to sit as backup, would have been brought in at the drop of a hat.
