This from Neil Moxley at the Daily Mirror... as of 13:36.

understand the fee for Che Adams will be north of £15m. Southampton are the main interested party.

They are offloading Charlie Austin, too. Burnley have been scouting Adams but my information is that Austin is leaving on a permanent deal for around £8m.

Could Turf Moor be a potential destination for the Saints striker? He fits the type of profile that Shaun Dyche likes and the Clarets are in the market for a forward.

The fee for Adams will be the highest received for a player at St Andrew’s. But that will be of little consolation to Blues boss Garry Monk who is still operating under a transfer embargo because of FFP issues.

However, Birmingham broke the rules to such an extent that this may leave little wriggle-room before the transfer window closes.

It will depend on the conversations they are currently having with the Football League. The club is still operating under the threat of a transfer embargo.

Garry Monk doesn’t want to sell Adams because where will he find a replacement at this late stage? But with a fee of that size the club will have little option but to cash in.

Interesting that RH just suggested that we may be buying someone now with the move happening in the summer

Given the above back and forth, it wouldn't suprise me if that was for Che Adams then. I will be a little disappointed if we don't bring anyone in this window, not even on loan. But there doesn't seem to be a whole lot going on anywhere.

The current inactivity is bothering me a lot less than it did in last year's JTW when it was inexcusable. We really were in potential **** street then and it was a huge gamble not to spend the VVD money then on at least 3 players (we only brought in Carrillo) plus there was no excuse not to as is was a bonus uncosted windfall. Most of it did get spent in the Summer and I think that this time is a calculated gamble with Ralph getting a chance to get to know and work with all of his existing squad until the end of the season before making more decisions at the end of the season.

But if the VVD money got spent on Carrillo and the summer signings, where is the money we could have spent in the summer? Oh yeah we only buy what we sell, the rest of the money we make from TV/PL deal disappears somewhere

Well you can start a protest if you want, I agree that squad investment should be higher, but they need to move on some deadwood and cut the wage bill drastically first.

Nah, I'm not that bothered. My comment was pretty tongue in cheek anyway. We are unlikely to spend £100m or whatever in one window without a significant clearout as we don't have the squad space, so naturally when we received £75m for one player it would be unlikely we would spend more than that anyway on 5/6 players

In the last few years we have always had players to sell so it could easily appear to be a buy to sell model, I don't completely buy that as I think it is very hard to keep players who are wanted by the big clubs. We sell them for (generally) large sums and the players who would want to come here cost less, we can;t sign everyone so usually we end up at about break even in terms of spend, but usually with more players coming in than have left. This year may be the year where we see how much we would spend with very little going out, but again it looks like Hassenhuttl wants a large clear out which will raise a fair amount anyway so we could end up around even again, the main difference being more will leave than come in.

<laugh> It’s not an actual ****hole or anything. It’s just not the buzzing waterfront, full of bars and restaurants and stuff, that it used to be.

It once aspired to be the Monaco of England. Now it’s basically Grimsby, without the fish.

This coming from a guy from wood green who’d have the wheels off a jumbo if it flew to low!
