The major concern has to be, not giving the CB's all the help they need. Recently, they've done their part, so we need to help them all we can. Be awful if we start seeing mistakes creep in because of instability. We just need the square pegs in the right holes & a settled defence.

It's because of Cedric's defending that I think that he is leaving now, Ralph was obviously not impressed and neither have I been this season.

Clasie's contract expires after next season.

Carrillo has one real strength: winning aerial battles with his back to goal. That's not how we play.

I have zero problem trimming the squad size; indeed, it's something we needed badly. At the same time, I'm a bit dubious that running with Valery/Ramsay is a sound choice, nor that it's Ralph's express desire that we do so given Guan's comments.

I don't blame Ralph or even RK or Gao that much, to be honest. Gao and RK explained to Ralph the transfer situation when he was approached to be our new manager, and while he doesn't seem over the moon with the situation, he does accept it. Gabbiadini out and Davis/hoedt loans free up enough cash that we shouldn't have to dip into summers transfer funds to cover Ings, which is all for the good. I can't speak for other fans, but I'd rather Ralph has a full range of options in the summer, rather than dip into the advance now and gamble on an overpriced replacement.

If we can get the players in on Loan, fine. Otherwise, I'm a lot more excited by a team training intensively under Ralph for 10 days without interruption than I am transfer countdowns.

One of the others who generally gets things right (including the four players who were moving out this winter) is suggesting that we'd been aiming for three inbound, but the fact that we were unable to sell Hoedt/Davis/Cedric means that we are unlikely to do so now. So, he thinks a replacement for Cedric is likely this window, wouldn't expect anything else.

Okay, got a bit of info tonight from someone with connections to the club (and no reason to lie). It’s very telling, and makes me love Ralph more.

Apparently there’s been a couple of complaints to the PFA about Ralph (from players that may have been moved on, I don’t know, but suspect so). Basically if someone steps out of line, he has said “you are all an incredibly privileged group of people - the fans that come to see us work their arses off doing jobs you’d be shrinking from” - so he’ll send a moaning player out to paint a sign, or fix a drain etc for an hour. Then get everyone back in and say “that is the sort of thing people do in order to spend their hard earned cash to see you. So you go out there and perform for them”.

Some players have moaned to the PFA who have come back and said “you can’t get them to do those jobs, it’s not in their contract” to which the CLUB have gone back and said “bugger off, yes we can”.

Man, I love that guy.

Didn’t Sturrock have that approach too....[HASHTAG]#sturrockhuttl[/HASHTAG]

I agree that it's a big risk relying on a couple of youngsters but I don't mind that as it means that there's still a (very) slight chance that operation avoid var will be successful :bandit:

It’s a risk waking up everyday!

Of course there is a risk in doing what Ralph has with Cedric going, but I don’t recall anyone saying it’s a risk leaving him out for Valery or Ramsey over the last few weeks, when he has. Every decision in selection is a risk.

It’s a risk not signing a new CB. It’s a risk relying on Danny staying fit and not having to rely on Long for goals.

We were looking doomed. We are currrently still in the thick of a relegation battle, but when we changed that manager it was clear this man would do it his way, stay up or go down. Moving on those bigger earners was always part of this.

Fans moan that the squad was average and big. We move some on and fans worry about the risk. Well, the risk was there anyway, with average players. It is a classic “no-win” situation for the gaffer.

It is a risk, but I’m liking and understanding the risk.

I so want this to be true, while also feeling a little nervous.

I'd be very pleased if the club were backing him this way as well.

I`d prefer to keep Cedric until a replacement is available. But RB is is the easiest position on the field to provide a competent stand in for. Easier than LB

Absolutely this on the risk front.... if we are going down, its gonna be a hell of a ride doing it with players (some of them a bit naive) with other players who have hunger, determination and Austrian fire in their bellies, PEH is gonna see red again this season I'm pretty sure, JWP will score some worldies and we will lose a few people who have been impersonating players over the last couple of years....but I dont have fear about the rest of this season....

Cedric, Davis, Hoedt & Gabbiadini were all out the match day squads shortly after Ralph’s arrival.
This has clearly been planned to happen.
Cedric didn’t start in any of our league wins and with Bertrand back, it was likely he would lose his place on the bench.

But we have had to call on him in many games in the last month.
That's the only thing that concerns me...I understand that Ralph would like to look at him initially, but why play him in the last game when he must have known he was going. I guess this was just too good for both parties to turn down....a good move for Cedric and a decent offer for the club. We may not have wanted to keep Cedric long term, but I think it's more a case of getting rid of a player that we can get rid of...he was not necessarily our top choice for binning this season.

Targett and Bertrand have pretty horrendous injury history that Cedric was covering. Vokins to get a chance before the end of the season? Playing Tyreke there is not the answer.
