I'm sure he'll question it if he doesn't win anything...

Throwing away god like status to achieve **** all.

God like status with the few or Meh status with the masses, plus playing in some of the biggest games going, becoming known worldwide and making a fortune. I know which I'd choose.

But then I am a **** and if I were good enough to be wanted by one of the top 6 I'd be off like a shot if I were at Saints

I used to see Adam in Bournemouth a lot. He'd walk around, and got a good reception from people (cherries saints, even the skates didn't mind him). I bet he no longer goes anywhere. Just spends time trying to patch up his broken relationship & dreaming of a night out in the strip club....................once again.
Boys a prick. However we spin it.
From legend millionaire to miserable millionaire. Yeah, I know which I'd pick.

He could have stayed here, made a lot less money, won f*ck all and had the fans turn on him, as *they* do eventually.
I bet he'll kick himself.

*they* being football fans in general, when a player is deemed to be past their best.
Lots of recent "legends" discussed in depth on the Steven Davis thread, SKD, Rickie, Davis, had to put up with an ever increasing number of fans questioning their place or future in the team.

**I understand "turn" might be a bit strong when regarding Rickie, but there were certainly no shortage of fans saying we'd seen the best of him and he'd need replacing soon enough...

Why would a fan on a forum not discuss whether a player was coming toward the end of his career?

Re: Adam

Can't say he has achieved nothing. Look at how much our fans bang on about going to a near-empty San Siro for a Europa Group Stage game. The experience wasn't dampened just because we didn't win the whole tournament. Adam has played in some huge European games that actually mattered, in front of sold out stadiums all over Europe, including a Champions League Final.

Absolute rubbish.
We've had good players leave, and crap players who stayed, and both get a lot of love/respect.

But as I noted, the opposite is also true, this can also be extended to managers, think of how Poch has been "welcomed" back on some occasions since he left , football fans can be fickle and are, in general, far more inclined to cling on to a negative memory than a positive one.

Did people do that to Matty then?

We'll have to agree to disagree but if he wins nothing there and then end up at a lower club again playing out his career then I don't doubt he will look back and wonder if he made a mistake.

One club man vs big club and trophies is a tough one anyway and will be a personal preference but take the trophies out and I reckon most people would harbour some regret.

Oh I don't disagree with you. I think the one club man legend status is very important too. Was just saying his move hasn't been for nothing just because he didn't win anything.
