That would probably be the plan either now or in the summer, we already have 5 CBs though so don't expect any more though unless at least one of them goes as well.

I'm sure the club plan to see how Alfie Jones does when he comes back, but at present we play with 3 so we will need minimum of 5, possibly another if we try and shift one in January.

Oops got done by a fake twitter account, back to bed for me

Instead I will use this post to say: now we're not going down, someone like Huddersfield/Burnley could do worse than signing Shane Long for a few million.

I know most of us (myself included) feel like we could do with better offensive options, and wouldn't be sad if one or two of them were shown the door. But if we're being honest, all four of Ings, Gabbi, Austin and Long would walk into the Huddersfield team. Huddersfield have got to be up there with having some of the worst striker options in PL history.

Cardiff, as well. They don't even really have a recognized striker in the squad some weeks; they've spent most of the year with Callum Paterson (who was a midfielder/fullback until a few months ago) up top, and while he has acquitted himself rather well under the circumstances, they could really use options.

An out-of-left field one: Josh Maja at Sunderland? Contract expires in the summer, one of the top scorers in League One a couple days short of his 20th birthday. I'll admit to having seen nothing of him beyond his couple-minute cameo in Sunderland 'Til I Die, but the sort of young value purchase that would seem to fit what we're aiming to do.

Merry Christmas everyone

I’ve definitely got some excess fat to rid myself off from January, but thought I’d give an idea of how much saints have to shift in 2019.

24 are currently named in the senior squad

https://www.football365.com/news/every-25-man-premier-league-squad-for-2018-19

Marcus Barnes has not been named in the 25, but has been playing in the u23s.

Furthermore, another 10 players are out on loan
1. Sam McQueen - Boro
2. Harrison Reed - Blackburn
3. Jordy Clasie - Feyenoord
4. Guido Carrillo - Leganes
5. Sofiane Boufal - Celta Vigo
6. Josh Sims - Reading
7. Ryan Seager - Telstar
8. Alfie Jones - St Mirren
9. Jake Hesketh - Burton
10. Jake Flannigan - Burton

The Jake’s from Burton are the only ones due back in January.
Jones & Sims are both u21, but will be classed as senior players from next season.

So that’s 35 players and this isn’t counting any players who might still be in the u23s now and come of age in the summer.

Don’t think they’ll be an issue extending Hesketh’s loan if necessary, so Ralph has only one slot available to him in January(without selling)

Edit: Goalkeeper Harry Lewis will be a senior player from next season

Out of contract this summer;

Steven Davis
Ryan Seager
Jake Flannigan

I was hoping we’d have a DoF before the window opened. Looking unlikely now. Hopefully the current management can pull another rabbit from the hutch for some players in this window.

Suggestion that we should resign Wanyama...like that's going to happen. But what I found interesting was the idea that he may be amongst players being cleared out at Spurs. Haven't given him much thought recently, but haven't things worked out for him at Tottenham? Or is it just that they have better players and need to pay for their new ground.

Injured all the time

I would like to see Boufal come back and let Ralph kick his arse into shape........there is a player in there with bags of talent.
Agreed, although we all said the same with Ramirez.

I think boufal will go the same way tbh. He certainly has talent but perhaps he just isnt suited to english football or doesnt have the right response when things arent going his way.
