On the 'one club man only happen at the top' - you may have heard of a certain Matthew Le Tissier. Adam is at the age where he will have grown up with a poster of him on his bedroom wall as a kid & idolized him. It may not keep him around forever, but I'm pretty sure he's got more loyalty to Southampton than many players have to their others. In fact, I have no doubt he'd move if Barca (for example) came calling, but if we continue to progress at the rate we are and if we meet the ambitions of our chairman few English clubs stand a chance. In previous years, I'd have thought ManU would be able to take him, but not in the state they're in at the moment.Surely ambition goes beyond loyalty or boyhood club etc? Are Southampton able to match their ambitions? If he wants to win a league title or European Cup, he will have to move on from the saints won't he?
Not saying Liverpool will win those things but it is more likely than Southampton. Of course, they could wait in the hope that another club to come in too.
One club men only really happen if the club is at the top of the sport. Giggs, Scholes, G.Neville, Carragher, Gerrard, Terry (bar the loan) all were able to match/aim for their ambitions by staying with their clubs.
PS...I think they won't join us because of price more than anything. You guys will want a lot but FSG want value for money nowadays having had their fingers burnt. Thats assuming we are actually wanting any of them of course![]()
Charlie Adam and Andy Carroll had superb stats at Blackpool and Newcastle before we bought them. Both did well in the Championship and then in the Premier League too. Neither could cut it at Liverpool.
Lallana has done fantastic and he could continue to do so, there is no guarantee he would be a success if he moved on though.

On the transfer fee, yeah, he's tied down on a long contract - it'll take a huge sum to take him from us as we're financially stable now.

On Adam & Carroll, doesn't that say more about your manager and his ability to get the best from players and, of course, your style of play than the ability of the players in their best positions.
We thought the same about Rickie Lambert when we stepped up from L1 to the championship & again when we were promoted to the Prem - Saints fans all said 'can he do it at this level?' He's answered that - those two are probably better technical players in their positions than him to the extent that we weren't worried about them (the only two we thought we had who could make it at this level). IMO They'd both flourish almost anywhere in world.
'Tiss would have been playing when Adam was a kid *googles* Turns out that he joined our Academy in 2000 (aged 12), 'Tiss played until 2002, so I'm pretty sure that he's Adams role model (or was as a child) even if they never knew each other.Fair enough, they're your opinions and you give good examples but they are the minority. Le Tiss was from a different era, doubt Lallana will have known him as a kid, he's too young!

As a side note, since 2000 Saints have built a new Stadium, appointed 17 different managers, been through Administration, been relegated twice, been taken over by Liebherr and been promoted twice, so he's already been through a lot with us and had ample opportunity to leave like Bale & Walcott. He decided to stay through all that;why leave now when we sit third in the Prem?

Ada's 25 himself, so not all that much younger than us anyway (I'm 30, as well); he's just developed a little slower rather than being a teen sensation or one season wonder type player.I was going more by my memory. I remember watching Le Tiss as I was growing up and I'm 32![]()
first i have heard of the link to us, so cant say if a good thing or not.
i keep hearing a Kopilanka or something like that linked, or some would like us to get, not sure if he is a forward though.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers appears to have won the race to sign Derby's Will Hughes.
Rodgers is poised to clinch the signing of £12million Derby County wonderkid Will Hughes - leaving Arsene Wenger and David Moyes out in the cold.
Hughes is a long-term target for Rodgers, Wenger and Moyes, having impressed in central midfield for Derby.
But the 18-year-old finally looks to be on his way out of Pride Park after Liverpool agreed to meet the Rams' £12m asking price.
According to reports, the Reds will land the highly rated England Under-21 international in January.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have again been linked with PSG's Jeremy Menez and are ready to battle AC Milan for the winger.
The 26-year-old will be out of contract at the Parc des Princes at the end of the season and appears out of favour under new PSG boss Laurent Blanc so an exit in January is distinctly possible.
The former Roma man has started just three Ligue 1 fixtures this season and as such has seen his position in Didier Deschamps national team set-up diminish and a move to Liverpool or AC Milan may well tempt the talented wide-man.
Roma are preparing to step up their interest in Liverpool target and Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye as coach Rudi Garcia plots a reunion with the France international.
And according to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport, the French tactician is keen to snap Cabaye up when the transfer window opens again in just over six weeks.

Rumours that Dembele is unhappy at Spurs ...
Rafa is sniffing around him apparently

A fair few papers are reporting Hughes is coming to us in January for £12m. Let's hope he is not another Allen/Shelvey/etc.
Buying youngsters is good for the future to hopefully pick up a player who matures into something special, but we need a couple of established players who can make a difference to the team straight away
