I would be very happy with him. Not purely because of his name, but he is the type of midfielder we need. And with Sami in charge at Leverkusen, he may give us mates rates! lol
You mean like he had to do for the two seasons prior to last one in order to get back to back promotions? The season before that, he won a trophy at Wembely with us and almost got top six, despite us starting on -10pts. Not done too badly this season so far either*; he, like all the Saints team who've come through the leagues with us have a winning mentality; our problem maintaing our current position will be squad depth; the players can handle the preassure of having to win. But I doubt any of our squad will be going to you lot anyway, despite the paper talk linking almost every single one of them to you this week. *Last season, he was also a stand out player from the begining - it's a shame our keepers [sic] & defenders let him down at the start of the season, but had we a settled defence and had Adkins not been naive at this level, we would have at least finished top-half anyway. You can see that in results under Pochittino with exactly the same players.
I don't think playing in league 1 or the champ is in any way comparable to playing in the prem every week. He does look good for you but it's very questionable if he would be as good for us if we signed him and I said the same about Michu.
Think we all admire the Saints, don't worry about that. But regardless it is a different sort of pressure. I'm sure that appears condescending but there you go.
We tried to buy him in the summer and were told he's not for sale. The price would have to be pretty high to get them to change their minds...
SIGNING!!!!!! Highly-rated Liverpool youngster Cameron Brannagan has signed a new deal at the club. #LFC
The bender/le arse jokes would have been too much. What about Roberto Firminho in January? Good attacking player. Will be very interesting to see if/who we sign in midfield. Will tell us a lot about how Rodgers sees the strengths of the current three (Gerrard, Lucas, Hendo).
I'll take the three most often linked players - Lallana, Shaw & Jay Adam is a Saints fan through and through; he's captain of his boyhood club & has just been called up for England. We're making a strong push for a European place and I'm pretty sure he's crazily dreaming of it being Champions League rather than Europa like most of us (most of us also know that CL is probably a step too far this season, but give it a couple more - we have money, a brilliant coach, a chairman with vision and great youth players on the fringes of the first team). The reason he won't go is for the same reason all of you would rather play for Liverpool than Barca or Bayern; it's his club and he's living the dream at it. Shaw if\when he leaves will leave for Chelsea - again, he loves it here and will break into the England senior fold soon IMO, but he's a Chelsea fan and may well go when Cole retires. Jay Has just got called up and needs to be at a club where he's playing to continue to impress - at your place he'd be behind two great forwards in Suarez & Sturedge In fact Shniderlin, the player that prompted me to reply here has more chance of any of the above three of being poached as IMO he'd fit and needs to be playing in the CL for a 'big club' to be picked for France seniors (he's played for them at every junior level) Look at his Prem stats both this season & last - he'd walk into any team that needs a top quality box to box midfielder; but hey, if your club's scouts think like you, then so much the better for us.
Sami Khedira ruptured his knee ligament yesterday. Move to Arsenal in January surely will no longer happen.
Surely ambition goes beyond loyalty or boyhood club etc? Are Southampton able to match their ambitions? If he wants to win a league title or European Cup, he will have to move on from the saints won't he? Not saying Liverpool will win those things but it is more likely than Southampton. Of course, they could wait in the hope that another club to come in too. One club men only really happen if the club is at the top of the sport. Giggs, Scholes, G.Neville, Carragher, Gerrard, Terry (bar the loan) all were able to match/aim for their ambitions by staying with their clubs. PS...I think they won't join us because of price more than anything. You guys will want a lot but FSG want value for money nowadays having had their fingers burnt. Thats assuming we are actually wanting any of them of course
Charlie Adam and Andy Carroll had superb stats at Blackpool and Newcastle before we bought them. Both did well in the Championship and then in the Premier League too. Neither could cut it at Liverpool. Lallana has done fantastic and he could continue to do so, there is no guarantee he would be a success if he moved on though.
