From the little I've watched, Allahyar appears to play off someone else.

If we do get Babel, he'll definitely only be coming as a starter too but it does feel a little like overkill when we lack a proper recognised striker.

I'm sure they'll be looking for a Pesic replacement

There was also a guy we had play for us back in 2008 who wasn’t too shabby at 39, managed to score the winning goal to send us up as well.. can’t quite recall his name.. ;)

Yeah did wonder that, he's even listed as a mid in the latest Iranian squad, so not sure what the thinking would be. My concern with Babel would be his age and ability to back up every game, but yes could have him as the starter.

Will be interesting to see. Wouldn't have thought someone like Longman would be turfed to the side though.

Hard to disagree, but as a player he was great for us, even at 37/38 (saving us from relegation) and 38/39 (getting us promoted).

I'm not adverse to 4-3-3, my issue is that the current formation has been getting the best out of a number of our current players, KLP, Williams and Longman look different players as wing backs rather than wingers, being able to attack from deep and utilising their great athletic abilitis to get up and down, the 3 lads playing cb have been incredible as well, Bernard and Greaves having the freedom to get forwards has added a lot to our game, in a back 4 you're having to drop one of them - prob McLoughlin so you have a right and left footed cb pairing which would be mental as he's been bloody brilliant recently, in the middle that extra defender has meant Smallwood isn't dropping deeper and deeper and his performances since have been brilliant, which has in turn freed up Docherty and Honeyman, finally, up top Eaves having a strike partner has made a massive difference to him too. At Championship level I don't think we've got the players to play 4-3-3 and be as effective as we have been with 3 at the back.

I 100% agree that we should stick with it, but if we are bringing in a full back of Yedlin's quality we'll see a massive difference. Only had to see the difference of Emmanuel to Coyle, had Mcann used him more we'd have probably won more games using 4-3-3 earlier this season. Would rather Fleming played than Elder now too, as he can actually stop a cross and is a miles better crosser of the ball. But with only 1 fit full back currently at the club i'd be worried if he started with 4-3-3 and opted for someone playing out of position. That was McCann's issue when we went down, he persisted with 4 at the back playing a centre back there who got ran ragged all game.

Absolutely. It was tough for the fullbacks playing in that system and the wide players presumably told not to tack back (or they didn't listen to McCann, as they rarely did. I think Coyle and Elder both received unfair criticism.

KLP helps Elder, Wilks didn't help Coyle. Elder hasn't been good when played in the wing back role either...

Is this one of those games where someone tries to get something that isn't true to 'trend' ?
