Years ago, in the ****kicking late 90's era, City were playing away from home (possibly Mansfield or Doncaster??). I had been working that morning and drove straight to the round still with my steel toecap boots on. After we got parked up, we were walking through a McDonalds car park to get to the ground when a lad called Justin (who had difficulty speaking so he used a device he could type on) was playing with a 50p Shoot type of football and pinged it in my direction. Being the sociable type that I am, I passed it back.
However, the combination of steely boots and 50p plastic football sent it up onto the roof of the McDonalds.

I felt like a massive twat! (I was a massive twat!)

After apologising profusely, offering to buy him a replacement and getting absolute Daggers from a mum with her kids in the McDonalds, Justin walked up to me and showed me what he thought of me.

"YOU ARE DAVE BAMBER." was all he wrote.

I was ruined.

I'm still sorry Justin.

I remember Justin, particularly from away matches in the Dolan era. Wonder what became of him?

He was still on his scholar deal, which are usually between £100- £750 a week depending on potential while we were in League One. When he signed in January 2021, he bumped up to about £2.5k a week and it went up again to about £3k week upon promotion to the Championship.

Given what we've paid him, can't argue we've not got value for money.

It does take the piss slightly that he's only on £3k. An offer of £12k a week might actually allow us to keep him for at least another year. He definitely deserves to be one of the higher earners

Given the average salary for Championship players these days, £3k is **** all tbh. We don’t need to go apeshit with wages but £12k for your best player in a Championship team is actually quite modest.

This website lists verified Championship wages, if it is really correct, there are some ****ing monsters in this league and shows what we're up against (and consequently just how well we've done).

According to this our highest paid player is Greg Docherty on £7k a week (which if you include promotion clauses, probably works out).

I’m not sure but I’m pretty sure he agreed a wage lower then the one he was due to get should he have made another start.

There was a 'suggestion from a source' quoted by either Humberside or HDM, prior to him being dropped during negotiations 14 or so months ago, that if he started another game under his current deal then it would trigger a wage increase.

Don't know how true that was but I have been told that his general wage increased when he re-signed and the option year in the clubs favour was the sticking point and the main reason negotiations took so long - not the wage per-se at the time.

Theres some chatter that basically his agent wants to cash in on a move this summer, but KLP likes playing every game with some of his best mates and could be persuaded to stay if the money is right.

I hope the chatter is right.

Of course it's speculation. But I think even Baz has been suggesting the club feel they have a better chance of getting him on a new deal now than perhaps was the case in January.

Theres gotta be a catch for 750k.

I wonder if this is the same guy who SKYPED be the other day from Ghana, said he was a top Ghana footballer and had a contract in England to play for a club, I just needed to send him the air fare and he would pay me back double.:emoticon-0112-wonde

That stuff about the extra year being the sticking point was in the public domain at the time wasn't it? McCann kept saying that they wanted him to commit for longer but that his agent was encouraging him not to.

They’re just guessing, they have absolutely no idea what these players really earn.

Seems okay, I hope he wouldn't be our main striker signing though.

Although Whoscored lists his weaknesses as finishing, holding onto the ball, passing and offside awareness.

But he is only 24

Considering Whoscored goes purely off numbers I wouldn’t take what they think a players strengths and weaknesses are seriously.

So 3 weaknesses that a striker actually needs!
Sounds like Eaves!

Well they got KLP right, and Danny Drinkwater, so they’re either very good guessers or they’re getting info from somewhere. Not sure how they verify stuff though, not as though players or clubs would openly tell some random website.

How do you know they got those 2 mentioned right? There is no way of verifying it

Because I know how much KLP is on? And Danny Drinkwater signed for £100k a week when he went to Chelsea, famously one of the worst transfers in Premier League history.

You’re right, without seeing the contract there’s no definitive way, but DD was reported at the time in plenty of newspapers and when he goes out on loan his wage is mentioned nearly every time.
