It's been asked a hundred times, but... Andy Carroll.

Seriously though. I cant believe some of you would want him back, he pretty bad in fairness and you do have a good scout that could get a lot better than Carroll for the price you would pay for him.

I disagree rubs, I actually think hes a pretty good player and unorthodox in the modern game.Last 2 months of last season he was excellent, and the stats for last season showed when he started we won about 75% of agmes and when he didnt about 25%.I think his true value is about £15m, but we might get a little less than that due to teams knowing we might not want him.The really problem seems to be getting him fit,but thta seems to be the issue with Ben Arfa too( not quite sure how you Geordies value him at £15m+ when hes out half the season, dreamworld) I can think of 20 better players than HBA for £20m how do a similar job, WHO STAY FIT

Thats all fair enough, he does seem to divide opinion a lot and I hope we can get decent money for him if he is to go this summer.

I shudda said I disagreee with you, in that I think hes a good player. I actually AGREE with you that if they wanted they could probably get better for less<laugh>

I think HBA is a 15m-20m player on ability. I don't think anyone will buy him this summer. He is very injury prone. Ashley's price will be prohibitive and no way any of the big clubs would go paying that sort of money for someone who has rarely been able to stay fit. I'm not sure he'd fancy Liverpool to be honest, I think his next move will be when he can stay fit, probably to one the big guns (no disrespect but you lot have slipped away from that bracket at present)

I rate Carroll. I don't think you can rely on him solely though. I do think however that Liverpool would cover all bases with him, Suarez and Sturridge. You have every type of player available plus Borini who Rodgers seems to like. I'd like him back here but only at the right price because he has fitness issues. We are also linked with Bony should we survive, who is also your big man option. We need that to compliment Cisse, and then we probably need the deeper lying Beardsley type to ensure we have got the full compliment. They like the lad at St Etienne but there are bigger clubs than us sniffing now.

I can't see Cabaye or HBA going to Liverpool more than likely they'll end up at Utd or Arsenal but I see a bigger threat coming from PSG or Monaco

I'd agree but this 75% tax bracket in France will not appeal to the footballers! Or their agents.

Anyway with our visitors from Liverpool about, do you have any tips for Aintree over the next few days?

Chicago Grey and Rare Bob are my two for the National, so there's two for everyone to avoid. I've back Silver Roque (11/1) and Jetson (7/1) today at decent prices.

This is what I think will happen, if you stay up, you will buy Carroll for about £10m, it may go up to about £13m ,if theres interest elsewhere.Think Borini may also be offloaded to Fiorentina replacement for Jovetic,BR didnt use him when he had the chance in February he doesnt like him as much as you think, and I can see us going back in for Gameiro who wanted to sign for us on loan in Jan but PSG wouldnt let him go

Funny you should mention<laugh>, I dont have any tips whatsoever,I'll worry about that Saturday, but I'm going on Saturday, should be a good weekend, bevvied on Saturday for the National and then bevvied on Sunday for the Hammers game

Been twice b4, when Red Marauder and Earth Summit won, when its pissed it down both times and backed the winner both times, only time Ive backed the winners, but the rain spoilt the day a bit.Really, really hoping its dry on Saturday, saying that when its wet I back the winners.

Usually I just pick horses on the type of ground they like, and the National nearly always seems to have "first time runners" that win

Andy is worth 8m-12m easy. tbh. especially for a move to his home club.

Ben arfa i would be angry to see sold for less than 15m + Andy or 25m.

I do not care that andy is only pushing for the subs bench at the moment

A black and white striker will always score more than one that wears green. Always<somersault>

He's already said in an interview in France that along with a few other teams in England and fRance, Liverpool would be a club he'd be interested in.

I read that interview in one of the threads in here.

If the top 4/5 aren't interested then I think we have a very good chance of getting him so long as PSG don't come in with silly money. Were heading in the right direction finally now after a nightmare 3 years on and off the pitch and with a few quality additions in the summer and a good pre-season with a Manager and system the players now understand, I think we can continue our 2nd half of the season form from this season, right thru next season and have a real shot at top 4. Think HBA would fancy that challenge. Its still a step up for the lad.

Plus, if he's money motivated, and our recruitment team/FSG rate him high enough, he could get a substantial rise in his salary which to many players can compensate for absolute guaranteed CL football every season. We've slashed our wage bill compared to when FSG took over so i reckon they'll be happy to offer him big bucks if they rate him.

I think that is more realistic. 10-12m. You guys can't afford to write off too much but he hasn't done well enough (stayed fit enough) to justify anymore. Its all just a bit of gamesmanship from yourselves and West Ham. They'd like him so are trying to use the press to get his tag down. Liverpool don't want him but are trying to backtrack on previous comments to keep a strong hand so they can maximise their return. I think he'll either end up back at Newcastle for 10-12m. Or West Ham will be silly, offer more and Liverpool will try to force Carroll into a corner by refusing Newcastle's bid and warning him he'll be looking at bench time.

Either way I don't see him at Liverpool.

Liverpool got taken to the cleaners on Downing, Henderson and Carroll. All three are decent players though.

You need to go back and watch our matches since Xmas and not just 5 mins of MOTD. Jordan Henderson has been excellent this season, especially since Sahin left, and looks twice the player he was last season. He's improving every game and is the centre mid whose name I, and many other Reds, want to see on the team sheet right after Gerrard and Suarez.

Scored a class goal last week after a great run and reading of play. he adds some much energy, physicality and tempo to our team in the middle, that we look a different team when BR drops him for his bum-chum Joe Allen.

We paid £16m for Henderson and although in years to come I may be proved wrong, right now I don't begrudge 1p off that transfer fee. If we can find a really strong DM whose excellent at breaking up play in front of the back 4 ala Mascherano to play behind Stevie and Henderson our centre mid will be really well balanced and complete.

He's defo been our unsung hero since Chrimbo whose flew completely under the radar and not got the attention and recognition he deserves because of how good Suarez and Gerrard have been this season, and because of the immediate impact Sturridge and Coutinho have made since joining in January. If you read the LFC forums regularly you'll see how well he's thought of by LFC fans now, and how he's always one of the first names on peoples teamsheet. If BR sells him in Summer there will be outrage.

17m? They're gonna be stuck with him then. 8m is the highest anyone will pay.

I'm led to believe the price with WHU isn't negotiable, its already set a £17m (£1m relegation survival bonus payment to us + £16m permanent transfer fee).

The contract was that if they stay up they have to buy him for £17m unless the player doesn't want to go to West Ham permanently.

Thats what was reported by all the most trustworthy LFC reporters and sources in the Summer at the time of the deal. There is absolutely no way on Earth that FSG will accept anything less than a total fee of £15m for Carroll.

Nah I don't mate because I rate him, and have said nowhere he has been ****e. I said you got ripped off for all three, you quite clearly did.

Those interviews in France are hugely unreliable and its a bit naïve taking them at face value. Its not that big a step up at present. You need to be more realistic about your clubs standing, you're no longer a big gun. You have great history but that's all it is now. I'm not saying he wouldn't consider Liverpool but if he is available at a sensible price which I doubt, he'd have better options than Liverpool I suspect. Rodgers has Liverpool on the right track but they are not up there with the big clubs yet.

They might have to. If Rodgers doesn't want him and Carroll digs his heels in then they are snookered. I can't it though as I think there will be enough money around for WHU to offer whats needed and all Liverpool need to do is threaten him with the reserves. He'll move somewhere but it is impossible to say where or what Liverpool will have to accept. I don't think we want him badly enough to pay more than 15m, at a push we may stretch to it simply because of the influx of money. I wouldn't pay more than 12m though, he is very injury prone.
