Where’s Mickey Evans when we need him?
Do SFC need to sign anyone? In the summer Athletic Bilbao signed no one. They had a very poor first half of the season and were even knocked out of the Copa del Rey by a team from the third tier of Spanish football. Did they panic? No! Did they sack their manager? No! They managed to top their Europa League group, and results have also improved in recent weeks in La Liga. And they still adhere to their "cantero" policy. SFC could take a leaf out of their book. IMO SFC need to improve the quality of players taken on board in the Academy. If Athletic can nurture such high quality players (Muniain, Inaki Williams, Laporte, Herrara (Manchester United, Llorente (Spurs) and Martinez (Bayern) from a small pool, Southampton can from a considerably larger catchment area if we include the London area, which I am sure SFC can tap into as it is only an hour away. I know SFC have produced a number of high quality youngsters over the years, but like Athletic it needs to be at least every two years.
Just my thoughts.
Signing nobody and not sacking the manager. Isn’t that what we are doing?
While I get the need to sign someone to improve the team is the desire of many fans here, including me, I do think we should be demanding a lot more from the players and manager, in terms of putting in a shift, playing with more mobility and intelligence in order to get away from the relegation zone that are already here. Replying to your point, not taking a decision could cost the club big time.
On another issue LTT, I was reading comments in the News from PFC fans today and surprisingly very polite as they have a great admiration for the SFC academy and so on. However someone alluded to the idea that money was being taken out of the club, SFC, to pay off the Liebherr family. If this is so, what has happened to the club's finances? I would have thought with average gates of around 30,000 plus TV revenue and other streams of income there would have been no need to borrow from the previous owner, or indeed the present one. Surely the club are not in a financial pickle?
Amen to that. The manager should be inspiring the players tactically and psychologically to play better. That’s where he’s failing horribly. With this squad, even as it is with no additions, and a decent manager, I would have no worries about relegation in the slightest.
Something is tactically and psychologically wrong with the team and staff. My concern is that a couple of signings won’t provide the turn around we need.Amen to that.
Laces’ point was that the problem lies with the manager, not the squad. I agree with him, in that even if we sign nobody this window (I’m not advocating that by the way), a new manager that can inspire and motivate the team will work wonders. On the other hand, if we sign a couple of new players and keep Pellegrino, I can’t see us climbing the table very quickly.Something is tactically and psychologically wrong with the team and staff. In the past we’ve said “a couple of signings away from a top 6 club”. Right now, to me, it doesn’t feel like that will do it.

Not trying to stir anything up, just a rumour I heard from a childhood friend of Danny Ings (lives in Netley) that he is coming to Saints. Don't blast me down, not claiming to be in the know, but what are people's thoughts about this? Personally I rate him and think we should have tried to get him from Burnley, but also am aware that he has injury problems. Thoughts?

pretty sure any ings signing would have been done at the same time as vvd, whilst we had the upper hand
Yes, what I think but better articulated.Laces’ point was that the problem lies with the manager, not the squad.
