They've had 5 penalties this season so I'm not sure how true that is. Your probably still fuming about their promotion season when they had 16 and got promoted off the back of it, I know I am!
We've had 8 in 3 seasons. Arsenal have had 16 in that time - 7 this season (joint most in the league).
Bournemouth won the league on the back of penalties this season but nobody seems to give them any grief.
Everyone moaning about us not getting pens is missing the point. It's the way we play, we don't run at people in the box and we dont have 1-on-1s against a keeper. The reason other teams get them is they do. Why does this board persistently believe that we're hard done by on every single issue? It's all so ****ing woe is us and it's unfair.
Agreed. People like Aluko, Hernandez, Brady, Elmo need to be running in the box, using their feet well, and drawing the contact. Sounds ****, but that's the only way to get penalties anymore. N'Doye could have had one or two against Palace but kept his feet.
Is that the Bournemouth who scored more goals than anyone in all four divisions? Their success is all due to penalties?
If Bournemouth got X number of penalties more than any other side, it was because they were in the opponents penalty area, X number of times more than other sides.
In Chelsea's case they scored 50% of their goals from penalties or free kicks around the penalty area. They play for free kicks around the box, and are good at conning referee's. They have also played something like 50% of their home games against ten or less men. Hazard is the most 'fouled' player in the premier league this season, meaning he has 'won' most free kicks. The antics of the Chelsea team when they played City at Stamford Bridge this season were disgraceful.
Chelsea have scored 50 goals from open play(the highest in the league), 14 from set pieces and have only had three penalties all season. Hazard is the most fouled player in the Premier League, because he's the best player in the Premier League.
We maybe don't do it enough, but when we have actually ran into the box and been fouled - we tend to get nothing. Aluko was constantly fouled against Liverpool but the ref seemed intent on giving him nothing all game. The one foul he actually gave him, he'd been fouled twice in the build up, got nothing - then he dived and got a freekick. It's not the same players throughout 3 seasons either - we had Shane Long last year, who isn't shy in going down and we still only managed 3 penalties all season.
He gets fouled because he is a good player who gets in dangerous positions. Not every foul is "won". Some are fouls. You can't quote stats without listing all the other teams for comparison.
