I am thoroughly indifferent to the notion of a man being attracted to, or aroused by, another male.

I cannot deny that overtly-camp men, with shrill voices and a penchant for al fresco intercourse with an audience of minors, repulse me.

Again, I distinguish between the act of homosexual intercourse and the circus of perversity that you claim constitutes 'culture' and 'identity' for [some] participants thereof.
Eric , clearly that incident , several years ago , whilst in your late teens , of being tricked into accompanying a trans - gender male/ woman into the foray of discovery of your own latent sexual identity has left you feeling confused & angry. But let it go Man, It was years ago. Make peace with yourself. Okay!?

Read the shocking homophobic email by group who cut down Pride flag at police station

The contents of a letter sent out by the ‘Men of Bridlington’ protest group, who also vandalised the Pride flag outside a police station in the town , has been revealed.

The group emailed a number of leading figures in the East Riding, including council leader Cllr Stephen Parnaby OBE , police and crime commissioner Keith Hunter and East Yorkshire MP Sir Greg Knight.

It came after they tore down a LGBT flag that had been hoisted by the town's station in time for Pride celebrations across the UK.

The message calls homosexuality “abnormal, perverted, antisocial, unnatural and dangerous” and also claims that homosexuals “spread diseases”.

Their actions have been widely condemned across social media with the group threatening to remove the flag once again if Humberside Police decide to rehang it.

The message was sent out to a number media outlets across the region, including the town's Free Press, and leading figures from East Yorkshire.

What did the email say?
"Dear Sirs,

"Recently a large rainbow LGBT flag has been flying at Bridlington Police Station . We cannot imagine why this decision was taken, but it is very wrong.

"The police should not be involving themselves in politics and should not be appearing to show bias towards fringe groups in society. That point in itself should be enough to condemn the police, but we especially object to the endorsement of the LGBT movement.

"Homosexuality is abnormal, perverted, anti-social, unnatural and dangerous. That is the view of normal people and within living memory, the practice of homosexuality was illegal in this country - for good reason.

"Homosexual relationships preclude, or are destructive of, normal families. Homosexuals engage in disgusting practices and spread disease. Homosexuality is not natural – nobody is ‘born’ a homosexual, it is a choice - and it has been found that homosexuals have often suffered abuse during childhood."

'We will remove it again'
"The police, of all bodies, should not be endorsing this, and it is completely unacceptable that they would. To any normal person, that flag could not be more offensive.

"We vandalised the flag the other evening, and we note that as a result of our actions, it has had to be taken down. To be clear, we did not remove the flag, as we respect other people’s property and do not wish to be accused of theft.

"Instead, we vandalised it by cutting the rope above the cleat and releasing the halyard – the damage is easily remediable. However, should you re-fly the flag or anything similar, we WILL remove it and we will also take whatever other action we consider appropriate and proportionate. We trust that further action will not necessary.

"Through your newspaper, we should also like to put a question to the police and crime commissioner, Mr Hunter, the chief constable, Mr Freeman, the local MP, The Right Honourable Sir Greg Knight, and PC Danny Fleming, the so-called ‘Community and Cohesion Officer’, whom we believe is personally responsible for this: If you were walking past a Humberside police station with a young child, how would you explain that flag?

"The people of Bridlington may also wish to consider that question. We know what the answer from the LGBT community will be. They will say that children should be taught to be tolerant, to which our answer would be a further question: Tolerant of what?

"We do NOT support the LGBT community. Our message to them is: We think you are perverts and freaks, and you need to keep it in the closet. More pertinently, it is not for public bodies to endorse the LGBT movement. If such a flag is ever flown from a public building in Bridlington again, it WILL be removed.

"Sincerely yours,

“John Ball

“Men of Bridlington."

'You are sad bigots'
Speaking to Hull Live on Sunday, Andy Train, who helped co-organise Hull Pride, sent a message to those behind the attack.

He said: ""You are sad bigots and have attitudes that are well out of sync with modern society and the real world.

"All this does is emphasise the importance of why we hold events like Pride and will continue to do so in the future.

"No hetrosexual person wakes up in a morning and is worried about going to work because of their sexual orientation. This is why we will continue the work we are doing."

Humberside Police have been contacted for a comment on the incident.

I've never actually been to Bridlington (except for stopping on the way through once for co-op doughnuts which were really bad) but are there many idiots there? Or is it just them?

It really does confuse me how people have homophobic, racist, etc views. People are people regardless of what they look like or who they sleep with.

Well, there are a lot of people who have moved there from less enlightened places like Leeds, Sheffield, Barnsley, Hull...

Why would you be passing through Brid to get anywhere anyway?

Tells you all you need to know about the local police that they wouldn't notice this happening on their own building.

Though you have to ask why they chose to fly this particular flag when they can come up with a long list of reasons for not displaying other flags. In previous years they have objected to pubs displaying English flags as it is racist and upsetting to others. My local landlord suggested they came back when they had told the
Greek, Italian, Turkish and other establishments to do the same.

I believe I was returning from Flamborough Head having been to see some Puffins, Fulmars, Guillemots and other sea birds.

I also wonder whether anybody has actually been asked to remove English flags. I always assume the Facebook posts are one the many hoaxes that I've never understood.

The stories about people not being allowed to put up England flags are usually bollocks, there's the odd genuine one (like taxi drivers who were told to take them down as they were considered dangerous), but in the main, they never happened. Same as the annual bollocks about Cadbury's not calling it Easter and Birmingham City Council not calling it Christmas.

So, why drive through Brid? Which Co-op was it? BTW, the Puffin colony is at Bempton not Flamborough.

I was in the pub when this copper came in. This was for Euro 2012. An older bloke at the bar asked the Inspector if Brid was crime free, and if it wasn't why didn't he get on with some proper policing. The twat of an inspector turned round and said he would check if anyone was singing during games as more than 2 people singing was a performance and anybody listening was an audience so he would need a music licence. This is someone who reckoned he was understaffed and underresourced but used to send officers round to check if any under 16s were there after the witching hour of 9pm. Burnsy had a discussion this morning why families prefer to go abroad for their holidays. Wonder why?
To wind the coppers up the landlord had the covers to the cellars, which are at the front of the pub painted as Union Flags prior to the start of the London Olympics later that year. Once posted a photo on here of the faded painting when someohevdisputed what I had written. Can't be bothered posting it again as you are obviously another who doesn't believe anything which doesn't fit in with your views and preconceptions.

Let me know next time you are in Brid and I will give you the name of the landlord and the pub he runs now. You can go in and ask him.

I didn't say it didn't happen, but if it did, they could just ignore him.

There is no law in this country that can be used to stop a flag being flown on the grounds that it could offend someone. In fact, it's everybody right to fly a national flag should they wish and as long as it breaks no laws (ie it's dangerous, blocking street signs etc), there's absolutely nothing the police can do about it.

Well this is awkward. Firstly you seem to dispute that I ever drove through Bridlington for some bizarre reason. Then you tell me I didn't see Puffins at Flamborough (You should email the Wildlife Trust and tell them https://www.ywt.org.uk/nature-reserves/flamborough-cliffs-nature-reserve, Bempton is better for seeing Gannets).

Then you tell me I'm "obviously another who doesn't believe anything which doesn't fit in with your views and preconceptions" purely for asking if you actually knew of one of these incidents because I didn't know whether they were true.

You OK hun?

Anyway, back on topic...

I was querying why you would drive through Brid to get to Flamborough on your only visit to the town. Interested to know where this Co-op was where you had such a disastrous culinary experience. Must have been a while ago as the main Co-op in Brid shut years ago.
Better tell these people there list is wrong as Bempton, not Flamborough is in the top 10.

I don;t know which. It was near a pub. On Champions League Final night. The Co-op website says there are 2 in Bridlington https://finder.coop.co.uk/food/BRID...at=54.08535&long=-0.1988020000000006&options=

I had a hankering for co-op doughnuts so set google maps to find the nearest one.

Anyway. Enough of your bizarre denials of puffins in Flamborough and Co-ops in Bridlington. Do you have an opinion on Hull Pride or the pride flag in Bridlington? Or a you one of the Men in Bridlington getting nervous about a hate crime prosecution so trying to detract?

They did just ignore him. He had made the mistake of going up the Old Town and coming the heavy in pubs where the responses to that sort of stuff are more robust. He then started looking for softer targets, as they do. He was basically a twat, and anti alcohol, probably due to his being a Methodist.
Same pub, different landlord a few years previously the police tried the live music performance with 2 or more singing and anyone listening requiring a licence. FC United had played Bridlington Town and loads made a weekend of it. About 30 or 40 came in and bedecked the place with flags. Great night, they had a fantastic amount of songs I hadn't heard before. In came some coppers who had seen the flags and informed the landlord not to worry, they would clear them out. The landlord informed them that was the last thing he wanted, it was the best Saturday night he had had all year. That was when they came out with the music licence stuff. A bloke in his seventies asked if they hadn't something more useful they could be doing.
They weren't wanting to argue with someone of his age so left muttering they would be checking and no one had betterbe drinking after time. Sure enough 2 police cars pulled up outside1 minute after closing time.
No doubt the usual assaults, muggings, burglaries etc were going on unhindered.

Who funded said rainbow flag

Surely not our permanently-under resourced police force?

The police have no business getting involved in trendy causes: they are there to catch criminals, not virtue-signal.

Whilst we're on the subject how can it be that I encroach onto the grass in football ground and I get up to a £1000 fine and banning order, yet I can park my camper van on grass in Picky Park, defecate in adjacent bushes and leave bags of litter over several days, refuse to leave, threaten to do it on other grassed area nearby and the police don't want to know?

Similarly after the SAFC game at the Stadium of Pink Seats a few years back, all our buses and vans were escorted through 3 counties (roundabouts blocked off etc) till we were back in Humberside?

Isn't the law funny in this country?

That copper was as clued up on live music as he was on flags, you don't need a music license at all if there's less than 200 people there.

Bridlington is like the hills have eyes

Google it

Next to the Friendly Forester, most likely. Second nearest pub to me though I never go in Though there is, or was as it is shut due to structural damage, another one with a pub next door but one.
Never denied you may see puffins in Flamhorough, but if you had googled best places to see puffins in East Yorks whilst you were desperately googling in your search for a doughnut, (have you risked buying a Co-op one in Hull?) You would have seen it was Bempton. As it is for gannets. So why go to Flamborough head.

People's sexual proclivities don't bother me. I go along with what Lady Patrick Campbell said. (Google it)
I know 2 gay blokes in my local, both smashing blokes who if you met them you wouldn't think were.
Know a few lesbians who go in occasionally, one of who you can have a far more intelligent conversation about football with than most blokes and another I used to do the quiz with regularly.
So you can take it I aren't a member of that group. Of course I won't be as right on as such an enlightened piece of perfection such as yourself.

A licence for music?

What next a licence for crossing the street
A licence to be out after 9pm

Think the regulations were different back then. Though judging by the way he was ignored and laughed at the landlords kbew he was wrong.
It was in the HDM once that Gough and Davy were told that if someone was trying out an instrument and 2 or more people were in the shop and could hear it that constituted a performance in front of an audience and would need a music licence. I think that was backtracked on.
