Giles was touted as a really good attacking left-back who can be a bit suspect with the defensive parts. We've pretty much asked him to defend in often really isolated situations and not utilised the strong points of his game at all really.
Difficult to see exactly what his strong points are.

Too many were carried tonight despite the pleasing performance.

Slater was poor gave the ball away countless times, Giles and Coyle were both poor. Jones is too slow on the ball.

Seri was excellent, Morton was and has been poor for a while bar Cardiff. Tufan was excellent, Philogene was brilliant first half but over complicated it second. Carvalho did his best, Omur the same but very wasteful in front of goal.

I think we saw the full Jaden tonight. Clearly talented, but has an over tendency to move it into his right foot, which can kill his momentum.

I’m not angry, I’m disappointed.

As said before, with the attacking quality we have, it’s no surprise that we looked dangerous going forward. When we went 2-1 up, we didn’t try and kill the game off. We tried to win 2-1, despite Middlesbrough showing us early on that they had another goal in them.

So many times, our downfall this season has been that we haven’t attacked enough. For me, this is down to the system. The fear of losing the ball is so engrained in the players, it holds us back. It really is a shame.

Anyone who thinks we played the right way today (with the exception of the second part of the first half) I just don’t have the time for. Liam Rosenior will probably come out and say we performed well. The ar** kissers will do the same.

The reality is, we missed an opportunity this game, and this season.

My final point, is that the second part of that first half was ‘this is what you could have had’ if we’d have played the right way. We bossed that and made Middlesbrough look ordinary. And I believe we’d have had a lot more points if we’d attacked like that against other teams. I just hope our better players (and Acun) want to stay and have another go next season.

Spot on (except I'd go for angry, disappointed and frustrated).

Boro looked dangerous on the break but shaky as hell at the back. There for the taking. Bizarre decisions (starting set up and subs) from Rosenior, and as you say, not going for a 3rd to kill the game but happy with keep ball at 2-1 against a team that's dangerous on the break. He got it wrong, as he has done time and again at home this season. Our home record is inexcusable.

I genuinely feel it's such a wasted opportunity this season given the talent we have. And wasted signings with Ohio and Sharp (looks like I would look out there and I'm in my 60's).

No confidence that he's the right man for next season. He might prove to be, and I hope he does as I doubt he'll be sacked, but I have no confidence.

Unless Norwich lose at the weekend and we win, it's time after that to build early for next season, meaning to only play those that will be here.

Do you really think Giles was an upgrade on Coyle at lb?
It’s irrelevant really though. Coyle was terrible first 20, did nothing but pass backward or lose the ball. Slater was the same on the other side. But why are they there when we can play someone in their natural position. At the very minimum swap Coyle and Slater so only one of them is out of position?

Who, Greaves and Jones? I think our defence gets put under too much pressure against better teams because our midfield doesn’t offer enough protection off the ball. As good as Seri and Morton were tonight on the ball, they offered no protection to the back four when Boro counter-attacked. Boro’s second goal should’ve been stopped on the halfway line with a tactical foul.

Not Greaves, but I agree on your assessment of the midfield. Seri is too slow for what he does/needs to do, it's like when Huddlestone came back; the vision is there but the legs have gone. After his closing down for the goal, he looked shattered. Good job his celebration was a kneeling prayer to god or he might have coughed up a lung.

Boro knew exactly what they were doing tonight, I was surprised it took teams this long to work out that our entire team pile forward but don't take the ball with them and that anybody who counters quick enough can get through easily.

The thing is people look at Seri but he’s the one who wins the ball back for us the most.

Slater and Morton always look busy off the ball but they very rarely get it back for us.

Much better home performance, same old issues though, allsop is a shame of a GK and needs to dropped. Ingram was dropped a lot quicker for a lot less and we just don't convert enough, we need to stop trying to walk to ball into the net.

QPR will be the more telling game imo, I doubt they'll come to us and be open, it'll be Birmingham/stoke etc all over again and we need to show we've learned, can break them down and win.

I really hope LR signs some proper experience in the final third during the summer and by that I mean someone who isn't ready to collection their PFA pension, someone who can help us win games either good bad or ugly, somrone with great game management and can contribute 10/15 goals a season, it will cost us but it's what's missing imo....

No chance should anyone expect anything less than top 6 after January. We’ve gone backwards after getting all the tools, persistance to play one of the worst keepers I’ve seen has probably cost us 10+ points instead of playing the one we signed is a head scratcher, the subs are always very poor, out thought by most top gaffers and toothless at home. Acun won’t stick around forever, most deflated I’ve felt after city for a while but the truth is was gone way before toda.

Who’s available in that mould?

Jutkiwicz is basically a pensioner now but the amount we cross the ball he’d score at least 10.

Ryan Hardie at Plymouth seems to do both sides of the game which we seem to be a requirement for a striker in our system.

For me we just need to do everything we can to get Delap. It won’t be long before he’s getting 20. A statto said he’s the best striker in the division for hitting his shots in the corner of the goal and once he starts getting it out of his feet quicker he’ll be getting 20+

Oli McBurnie is on a free……

At least Rosie has explained why Matty didn’t come on, Giles was clearly not 100%, I didn’t even think he’d make the bench, never mind the pitch (he was wincing and rubbing his groin in the warmup). He’s never worth £4.5m.

it was a good performance overall and a decent game, we really should have got a third (story of our season).

Be interesting to see if Pandur starts on Saturday. If he doesn’t, he should come on up front for the last ten minutes, he’d be more use than Billy Sharp.
