They sacked the director of football.
Not sure what other reactions there are?

Head of recruitment remains. You’d assume he had a pretty big say in a lot of the signings we’ve made in the past 2 or 3 seasons. Though admittedly, we can’t fire all of the football men on the board without having their replacements lined up and maybe he was operating under Les rule, I dont know.

I'm not a fan of big Sam, but I'm fairly confident he'd keep us up. Nobody wants him long term though, and not sure he'd come here just until the end of the season like Hughes did. At some point we need to be looking longer term development of the team but if that manager isn't available then I'd rather bring big Sam in then leave Hughes in charge and hope for the best. Our biggest problems are our defence and our inability to score enough goals from all the chances we make. Big Sam would at least get us solid and we would start turning some of these losses into draws and draws into the occasional win.

I'd be seriously surprised if Sam came here - I'm pretty sure he thinks he's better than Saints. We are probably amongst a handful of clubs who I don't think he'd be interested in.

If it was any other club I would say it's the dreaded vote of confidence but with us it could mean sticking until January...

A better manager could improve our defence at least. Our midfield hasn't really dominated anything for ages. Ings and Gabbi have the answers between them to the striker problem. We could be looking at the giddy heights of 14th with this squad imo.
Maybe. I’m not arguing that the squad is under performing. But the defence has been **** since Virgil left, we need a stand out CB.

Bottom 3 this morning. Hopefully the result at the weekend and the Hudders away win is enough even for the Saints Board to do the right thing (here's wishing :emoticon-0107-sweat ).

Arteta is an interesting choice and could be a shrewd one.

Yeah, I'd be quite happy with that. It's a risk, but a hell of a lot better than another spin through the line of managers who are unemployed for a reason.

We'd need quite a squad overhaul; all indications are that Arteta wants to play in a manner similar to Pep, and we're not quite cut out for that. However, we need quite a squad overhaul anyway, and getting back to passing, pressing football sounds good to me.

Trying to find out. I know some who knows one of the coaching staff.
Thanks FLT. Hopefully this gets done quickly, l see from the press there is talk of the ex-Monaco boss or the ex-Ajax boss. Not sure on either would want to join us, but perhaps the former has an excellant reputation for developing talent.

Edit: just caught up with rest of the thread (just landed in Doha to work on my football challenge).

Which club is the more attractive proposition at the momento? Leeds who are chasing promotion and getting gets of 34,000 every home match, or struggling SFC with gates sliding downwards. I think Bielsa would like to finish the project he was invited to start.

Agree. Bielsa is also on £60k p/w after tax @ Leeds. Really can’t see us offering anything close to that, let alone the extra you’d need to get it both bought out and agreed.
