How to solved a problem like McGregor?

  • He's fine keep him as Number 1

  • We need to buy a new Number 1 - McGregor as Number 2

BINGO, and I voted to get another keeper. Our defense doesn't instill confidence. Offense wins games but defence wins championships.
the team that scores the most goals wins the league the vast majority of times but the team with the best defence do not as often.. these are facts

The thing is, giving Harper a run in the net could make it even worse. Mistakes will make him lose confidence, but being benched for his number 2 could be catastrophic.

Man City left Hart out last season after he made a series of errors - he came back stronger for the experience.

Dropping the keeper now would be disastrous, all keepers make mistakes anyway. overhigh expectations from the fans again, seen it on another thread with somebody on about Quinn as if we should have Makelele playing or something

It could, because Harper is nowhere near as good as Mags or Jak. Not now anyway.

Both the goals we conceded on Saturday were defensive errors, people are starting to look for a fall guy already and I'm not having McGregor as that man. He does far more right than he does wrong and as I've said time and time again, it's because he's a goalkeeper that his errors are far more costly and therefore standout more. But the first goal wasn't a goalkeeping error, Cisse slotted it under him. A lot is made of being 'beaten at the near post', but the fact was it was a powerful shot and he just couldn't get down in time. For the second, he couldn't really save that could he? The defence shouldn't have let their lad head it down to set him up.

The only thing that McGregor does seem to get caught out on is long range shots, but I'm sure with a bit of positioning training he can sort that out.

I seriously can't believe this is a thread already.

its not the only thread bemoaning certain players either.. especially a new young lad

Who'd be a keeper eh ?

You can do some sterling work and no one really pays too much attention.

One mistake and you're ****e and need dropping.

Can't recall who it was but a centre forward at the weekend had a gilt edged chance in front of goal, only for the keeper to make a great save.

All the commentator banged on about was what a miss it was, nothing about the save.

Reading through the posts above and i was going to write something very similar to what you put. Since you put it first, I'll simply say, spot on.

Surely it is irrelevant if you make 10 world class saves but then make a clanger on something easy which in turn loses you points.

It would be okay if it actually was one mistake but it isn't and it is creeping into his game more and more.

Whilst the poll is heavily against what I am saying there are still a large amount of people who are seeing what I am and if his performances continue, then I am sure that margin will narrow.

I searched his name on twitter and the majority of the comments are saying the same thing.

You obviously weren't at the QPR match where Greegsy saved us numerous times.

Stop criticising your own players.

I thought I needed to state the bleedin' obvious, seeing as some clown just started a poll on replacing him with someone else. <doh>

Surely common sense would prevail that the replacement would be in January or the end of the season. McGregor is our best keeper and our number one. I am questioning whether we need to address this situation in the future.

But if you want to be a smart aleck then please continue.

There is no logic whatsoever in not criticising your own players!

We as fans contribute towards their wages and have every right to criticise them if they are under performing.

I am also not saying he is a bad keeper but the team has progressed and that is now starting to look like a weak point.

Obivously he will need replacing in the future, we might sell him or he might get a career ending injury. As he gets older they might considering replacing him and benching him. But that clearly won't be for another few years yet and it certainly won't be this season.

Name a keeper who doesn't concede goals or make mistakes.

From the highlights from MOTD, Greegsy looked ok to me.
