All keepers make mistakes. All footballers make mistakes. I'm stating that he is starting to make more mistakes, more frequently and is starting to cost us points. I am a fan of McGregor and when he is on form he is a good keeper but his consistency is now becoming, in my opinion a problem.
' I know you are, I said you are, so what am I ' Is McGregor's form questionable currently? Was it questionable towards the end of last season?
Everybody's a pundit aren't they? I've been a goalkeeper for years and it's ****ing well difficult. You spend most of the game stood around watching and then when you do make a few saves, they're quickly forgotten in favour of the goals that were scored at the other end. When you let in a goal, it's always your fault from your own side and a great goal from the other team's point of view. The hand eye co-ordination required to stop a ball that's being kicked at you at 90mph is amazing. It's why I never made it in the professional game, but it's also why the standard of goalkeeping is getting worse at grassroots level. Simply put, kids just don't wanna do it anymore. You as a fan don't have to go and watch the team, you get to, so what right do you have exactly? The players answer to the manager and that's it. They want to make the fans happy, but the fans aren't qualified coaches so who are they to tell the players how they should be doing their job?
None more so than any goalkeeper in the bottom half. At what point do you stop saying "he should've saved it" and accept that there was more skill going into the strike? Was it questionable towards the end of last season? Give me a player in our team who wasn't out of form.
Minus the part about it being difficult to be a goalkeeper this is a stupid, stupid post and makes no sense whatsoever. Wishy washy and trying to be PC. Have you ever said anything critical about a player, performance or manager ? 1. The manager and players wouldn't be there if it wasn't for the fans. So right there that ****s on this post. 2. I/We pay for the clubs existence. Therefore we have a right to exercise our opinion. 3. Your logic is. You're not in the football industry so you can't have an opinion on it. Surely that applies for anyone who criticises TV, Music, Movies and games etc etc. 4. Criticising sport/players is apparently an alien concept to you. Surely this is as common and world wide spread. In the ground, in the pub, on forums, at work and pretty much anywhere. 5. I don't need to be qualified in football to know when something is good or bad or not. 6. I aren't trying to tell anyone how to do there job. Just exercising my opinion about an area of the squad I find to have a weakness.
Your right but its probably more relevant to question why they are forced to make the save in the first place, both goals on Sunday were down to poor play from our midfield/defence, which makes it seem harsh that McGregor is getting the blame.
I don't understand why people are focusing on the Newcastle game. It goes back further than that. If his form improves, then I personally am willing to hold my hands up and admit I was hasty. I just feel that he is starting to become a liability and he doesn't have quality enough competition. Just looks at Stoke three Goalkeepers.
Bollocks, I've also been a keeper for a long long time, and I've played at a good level, from city youth teams to semi pro with Brid and Hall road. The reason I didn't make it any further than semi pro is because I was making the same mistakes Mcgregor is making now. He's a professional and he's making far to many basic errors. Unfortunately the position he plays highlights his mistakes more than any other position on the pitch. Luckily for him he is paid very handsomely to not make these mistakes. at the moment he isnt performing well. He may still be pulling off world class saves, I'm not debating that. But if you think he isn't under performing then you either no very little about goalkeeping or you're kidding yourself. Fans pay their money and they are more than within their rights to have an opinion, especially on a ****ing message board.
So you just ignore them all then, is that your answer? We're discussing the one player who can cover the goal: his position is critical and unique.
Silly sod, which kindergarten do you play for? When you get to play for the big boys teams I'm sure you will hear plenty say to a goalie, something like, 'hard luck that, mate'. We're discussing things that weren't hard luck, one of them really poor (Lokeren). There's nothing wrong with a bit of supporter scrutiny, it what these forums are for, or shall everyone just slag each other off? I think the OP is relevant as I don't see Harper as a realistic challenger for the Jersey and Jak does not seem to be either; we need real competition for the position, as Mac definitely switches off and it is costing us points. Until he is properly challenged he is our No. 1 and I don't get why others needed to point that out, a bit anal, to be fair. As for your wonderfully pathetic outpourings about the ball velocity, hand and eye attributes and all around miseries of being a goalkeeper. Goalkeepers of my acquaintance would laugh their arse off while telling you to get off your cross and, probably, change your tampon. They would also tell you that he covered his nearside post inadequately, for the first goal.
You keep doing this, 'blame the outfield' malarkey. If the manager, coach, supporter wants to understand the frailties of their players then they deal with the issues separately. However a threat arrives at a GK, it then becomes his job to deal with it and it is only on that he can be judged, which is what is happening on this thread - they call it football discussion, something we lack on here. Anyway, anybody built a good shed lately or knows where the best chippy is?
Yeah but the difference is the mistakes you were making (and myself included) were because you weren't good enough. Otherwise we'd be talking about you or me. He's made the step up and built a career on being a reliable goalkeeper. I haven't seen anything other than a few blips to suggest he doesn't deserve to be our No1. I honestly don't think his form is to blame for our start and, as has been said above, to blame him for the goals on Saturday (or indeed most of the goals he has let in) is absurd. I accept Fez's stance on the Lokeren game, fair enough, but some strikers are paid hundreds of thousands of pounds a week to score goals. Not all of their shots go in or even end up on target, so why is it different when keepers drop a clanger here and there? And I didn't say anybody wasn't entitled to their opinion, just that jumping to ****ing stupid conclusions like this thread are ridiculous things to do in the face of a couple of mistakes.
