Honestly, with our current financial plight and yet with a group of up and coming promising youngsters, a manager/coach; whatever the term is, in Steve M who has a good coaching record can hardly be sniffed at

Also, and as alluded too, he is (for good or bad), a high profile name in football both here and on the continent. The theory being he can pull in some decent experienced loan signings to balance the youth

Keep Ramsey Penrice etc and we seem to have a decent set up

The other option is a completely untried yet promising manager from the lower leagues

Honestly I'd take either of the two above scenarios over the usual clogging mercenaries like allardyce or pardew

His last stint in the championship (Derby) he had a win rate of 45%; while Holloway has a 34% win rate. So some may argue that’s an improvement.
Interesting that some of his better figures are in the Championship, so maybe there is optimism from those statistics.
Perhaps his coaching skills and working with developing players work to his more positive skills.

Of course you could always throw in his stints at Newcastle and Florist to mix things up a bit.

Would like to see Ramsey kept on. See what Penrice can do in the close season; and how the improvements/new players brought in fit with McLarens view of what we need and where.
I'm not surprised he had good win stats at Derby. As I remember it they spent a lot aiming for the PL in that period and were among the promotion favourites for a few seasons, but didnt make it. Thanks to OBZ that one season.

Best day and to be there with my son will never be beaten.
Reckon Derby will miss out again this year.
McClaren took it well in that clip.

Gave me goosegoose all over again watching that! Reminds me how lucky we were to win it, and makes me wonder how things would have been now if we hadn't.

Wouldn't have changed that day for the world though.

I don't agree that we were lucky, but that's been debated on here before.

Same here
Was there with my son and watching Rangers win at Wembley is a once in lifetime experience
McClaren showed a lot of class that day and we played some of our best football when he was on the coaching staff
Hope he can move things forward if he is confirmed

Agree It was a magic day. I met up with some on here at that Irish pub, then after found myself back at Shepherds Bush dancing in a pub (with some on here). Bloody fantastic! Agree as well with McClaren showing class.

In the context of what he's had to deal with i.e. FFP, no signings and blooding youngsters I'd say thats a significant improvement.
There's no gauge for comparison apart from performances and points. Nobody else was in charge this season! Performance improvement......a definate no in my opinion. Points improvement.....yes by 3.

Agree, and what did FFP have to do with it? It hasn't even happened yet. He had a good enough squad.
The problem with Hollow was that he was too eratic.

I don't think Paul Parker expects McClaren to manage us ...

A great day indeed, you referring to that Irish pub in Kingsbury which is where me and my daughter went pre-match and post match, but for me it was the long drive up the M1 home to Derby QPR flags flying out the windows taking the abuse of Derby fans with a big smile on me boat and my daughter then 17 abusing back including a car I believe containing her uncle and cousins who have not spoke to us since lol .

Yes that was it. I think it began with D or N? saying that I turned up drunk so it could have started with the letter X
